How to Set Up a Jersey Company with a Bank Account in 2026

Company Formation in Jersey

Jersey company formation with a bank account gives you a company in a Crown Dependency with a 0% standard rate of company tax, no audit for a private company, and a multi-currency account ready to receive money in the same week. It is the setup most founders and investors abroad actually need: a company that can pay and be paid from day one.

The usual route splits the two jobs. A licensed provider forms the company, then you start again with a bank that wants its own file, its own questions and often a relationship deposit. Island banks turn away most companies owned from abroad, so a new company can sit for weeks with no account and nothing moving through it.

We run both as one process. Binderr works with licensed Jersey administrators to form the company, and our banking partners open its account from the same KYC pack. One file, one team, a company in about a week and an account days later.

Why Set Up a Jersey Company With a Bank Account

Forming the company and opening its account together saves time, money and repeated paperwork. These are the reasons most founders abroad choose Jersey company formation with a bank account over two separate projects.

One File for Both

The company and the account ask for the same things: passports, proofs of address, source of wealth, an ownership chart and a description of the business. Built once and checked once, the file serves the Registry, the administrator and the bank. Two separate projects mean two sets of certified copies and two rounds of questions. Our guide to company formation with a bank account covers other jurisdictions.

No Gap Between the Certificate and the Account

A company without an account cannot invoice, receive capital or pay its administrator. When the bank file is ready the day the certificate is issued, the account follows within days instead of weeks, and the company starts working straight away.

Jersey Company Formation With a Bank Account

Jersey company formation with a bank account is very doable when one team runs both. This is what we handle for you.

  • From €1,499: Our one-off formation price, the Registry fee included.
  • One KYC pack: Built once for the company and the account.
  • Licensed administrator arranged: Registered office, secretary and nominated person.
  • Account in days: Our partners open multi-currency accounts about 4 days from a complete file.
  • No minimum balance: No relationship deposit before the account opens.
  • Owners anywhere: Directors and shareholders can live outside Jersey.
  • One point of contact: From the first call to the first payment.

0% Company Tax at the Standard Rate

The standard rate of company tax in Jersey is 0%, with 10% for certain financial services companies and 20% for utilities, large retailers and Jersey property income. There is no capital gains tax and no withholding tax on dividends paid to owners abroad. Read about Jersey holding company tax benefits.

A Structure Banks and Counterparties Accept

Jersey was rated Compliant by the OECD on tax transparency, and MONEYVAL's 2024 report rated it compliant or largely compliant on 39 of 40 FATF Recommendations. A Jersey company carries none of the stigma of an unregulated offshore shell, which makes the account file easier. See the other benefits of incorporating a company in Jersey.

Several Currencies From Day One

About 70% of the money held in Jersey banks is in foreign currency. Our partners give the company GBP, EUR and USD balances in one account with real IBANs, so it can trade internationally from the first week.

Why the Bank Account Is the Hard Part

In Jersey company formation with a bank account, forming the company is the predictable part. Banking it is where most founders abroad get stuck, because the island's banks build their business accounts for local companies.

The Island Banks Want Local Owners

NatWest International's business account is for companies registered or tax resident in Jersey with every owner and director living in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar. HSBC wants decision-makers who live locally with a local mobile number, and Lloyds wants a company registered and operating in the islands. A company owned from abroad fails these rules before anyone reads the business plan.

Intermediary Banks Want a Relationship

Butterfield and Standard Bank take structures introduced by trust companies, price by relationship and charge for every payment. Butterfield charges £25 or £37 for an online SWIFT payment and up to £92 for a manual one. The review runs through the administrator and can take weeks, as covered in how to open an offshore bank account in Jersey.

A Refusal Follows the Company

Refusals are common and rarely explained, and the next application asks about them. That is why the account needs to be planned with the company, not after it. Our guide to how to open a business bank account in Jersey covers the banks' rules in detail.

Requirements for a Jersey Company With a Bank Account

The company and the account each have their own rules. Planning both together is what keeps the timeline of Jersey company formation with a bank account short.

Directors, Members and a Secretary

A private company needs at least one director and one member, who can be the same person and live anywhere. Every Jersey company must also have a company secretary under Article 81 of the Companies (Jersey) Law 1991, and a sole director cannot also be the secretary. The administrator usually provides the secretary. Read how to incorporate a company in Jersey for the full company rules.

A Registered Office and a Nominated Person

The company needs a registered office in Jersey and a nominated person under the Financial Services (Disclosure and Provision of Information) (Jersey) Law 2020. For owners abroad, both come from the licensed administrator.

Who Can File the Incorporation

The JFSC Registry accepts an incorporation only from a Jersey-resident beneficial owner or a JFSC-regulated provider licensed for formation services. Owners abroad always form through a licensed provider, which is why we work with licensed Jersey administrators. Read more about Jersey company formation agents and services.

The incorporation includes the JFSC consent to issue shares under the Control of Borrowing (Jersey) Order 1958. It is part of our formation, not a separate application.

What the Bank Adds

The account needs signatories, a board resolution to open it, the ownership chart traced to real people, source of wealth for each owner, and a clear description of the money the company expects to move. Read how to register a private company in Jersey for the formation side step by step.

Jersey Company Formation With a Bank Account for Non-Residents

Most Jersey companies are owned by people who live elsewhere. Jersey company formation with a bank account works the same way for them, with three points to plan.

Nothing to Do on the Island

There is no residence rule for directors or members, and no one needs to visit Jersey. Documents are certified where you live, and our partners check identity online with a passport and a selfie.

Where the Company Is Managed

A Jersey company is tax resident in Jersey unless it is centrally managed and controlled in another country with a tax rate of at least 10%, and is accepted as resident there. A board that decides everything from your home country can move the company's tax there. Read setting up a business in Jersey as a non-resident for the details.

Reporting at Home

The account is reported under CRS to the tax authorities where the owners live. Tell your adviser at home about the company and the account from the start. Our guide to setting up a company as a non-resident compares other options.

Set Up a Jersey Company From Abroad

Owners abroad are the norm for Jersey companies, and we make the whole setup remote.

  • No travel: Documents certified where you live, identity checked online.
  • Administrator in place: Registered office, secretary and nominated person.
  • Board position planned: So the tax position holds where you live.
  • Island banks want residents: Our partners do not, and they open in days.
  • One budget: Formation and the first year in one written quote.
  • One team: No emails between you, the administrator and the bank.

How to Set Up a Jersey Company With a Bank Account

This is how to set up a Jersey company with a bank account with us, in the order that avoids delays.

Agree the Structure

One call to agree the owners, the board, the share type, the activity and where the company will be managed. This decides the substance position and what the bank will ask.

Build One KYC Pack

Passports, proofs of address, source of wealth and the ownership chart, collected once and checked before anything is filed. Most delays in both formation and banking start with a gap in this pack.

Reserve the Name and Draft the Constitution

The name reservation costs £10. We prepare the memorandum and articles and the application for consent to issue shares.

File the Incorporation

The JFSC charges £205 for incorporation within 5 business days in 2026, rising to £856 for the 2-hour service. The standard fee is inside our price from €1,499.

Open the Registers and File Beneficial Ownership

The administrator opens the statutory registers, records the nominated person and files the beneficial ownership information with the Registry.

Submit the Account Application

To open a business bank account in Jersey for the new company, the application goes in with the same pack on the day the certificate is issued. Our partners usually open the account in about 4 days from a complete file.

Fund the Company and Start Trading

Share capital, first invoices and supplier payments run through the new account. From here, the company only has its yearly filings and the account's periodic reviews.

Documents for the Company and the Account

One list covers Jersey company formation with a bank account. Collect it once, and the formation and the account move together.

For Each Director, Owner and Signatory

A passport, proof of address from the last three months, a short summary of source of wealth with evidence, and a CRS tax self-certification. Where a company owns the Jersey company, its own registry extract, constitution and ownership chart are needed too.

For the Business

A description of what the company will do, where its customers and suppliers are, the currencies it will use and the volumes it expects in the first year. Contracts, invoices or a website make this credible. A holding company describes what it will own.

Certification

Copies are certified by a lawyer, notary or accountant where you live, with certified translations of documents in other languages. Our partners check identity online, which removes most of the certification work for the account. The full banking list is in documents and requirements to open a Jersey bank account.

How to Open a Business Bank Account in Jersey for the Company

For a company owned from abroad, the account comes from our partners or from an island bank through an intermediary. For most, our partners are the faster and cheaper route.

Our banking partners are licensed electronic money institutions that open accounts for Jersey companies owned from anywhere, fully remotely, with no minimum balance. Client money is safeguarded, kept apart from the partner's own funds. Jersey's depositor compensation scheme does not cover companies anyway, so a company's balance at a Jersey bank has no scheme cover either. The differences are set out in business bank account vs EMI account.

Running the Company and the Account

Once the company and the account are open, the yearly obligations are light and predictable.

Yearly Filings

The annual confirmation statement is filed between 1 January and the last day of February, and a late filing adds £75 in March, rising to £740 by the end of September. The company tax return is due by 30 November of the following year, with the economic substance answers inside it.

Ownership Changes

Beneficial ownership changes must be notified to the JFSC within 21 days, with fines of up to £10,000 for failures. Tell the account provider about new owners, directors or signatories at the same time.

Account Reviews

Providers review business customers every one to three years and ask for updated documents and accounts. Keeping the company's books in line with its bank statements makes each review quick.

Economic Substance

A company in one of the nine relevant activities, such as holding company, finance and leasing or intellectual property business, must be directed and managed in Jersey with adequate people and premises. Read how to set up a Jersey holding company for the holding test.

Common Mistakes

Most delays in Jersey company formation with a bank account come from treating the company and the account as separate projects.

Forming First and Thinking About the Bank Later

A company formed without a banking plan often sits for weeks while an island bank reviews it, or refuses it. Plan the account before the company is filed.

Applying to the Island Banks From Abroad

Owners abroad fail the residence rules at NatWest International, HSBC and Lloyds, and each refusal must be declared on the next form. Apply first to a provider whose rules you meet.

Nominee Shareholders and Long Ownership Chains

Nominee arrangements and several layers of companies slow every bank down, and some refuse them outright. Keep the chain short and show the real owners clearly, as covered in bank accounts for Jersey holding companies.

Missing the Secretary Rule

Every Jersey company needs a secretary, and a sole director cannot fill the role. The administrator usually provides one, but it belongs in the plan from the start.

Running the Board From Home

A board that decides everything outside Jersey can move the company's tax residence, and the bank will ask about it. Settle where the company is managed before the account is opened.

Talk to Us About Your Jersey Company and Account

Not sure how to structure the company or which account fits? Tell us what the company will do and we plan both.

  • Holding or trading: The right structure and substance position.
  • Corporate owners: Parent companies traced and documented for you.
  • Several currencies: An account that fits where the money comes from.
  • After a refusal: We find the reason and fix the file first.
  • One quote: Formation, first year and banking together.

Bottom Line

The fastest way to a working Jersey company is to form it and bank it as one project. Island banks build their business accounts for local owners, so a company owned from abroad that forms first and banks later often waits weeks or is refused. With us, Jersey company formation with a bank account runs from one KYC pack: the company in about a week from €1,499, with the JFSC fee included, and a multi-currency account from our partners about 4 days after the certificate, with no minimum balance. A realistic first year for a simple company is about €5,000 to €10,000. For the full formation process, read our guide to company formation in Jersey.
