A Jersey offshore bank account gives a company or structure owned from abroad an account in a Crown Dependency with no exchange controls, a regulator rated highly by MONEYVAL in 2024, and a banking address that counterparties accept. About 70% of the £193.1 billion held in Jersey banks is in foreign currency.
Getting an offshore bank account in Jersey is the hard part. Jersey's offshore banks take companies and trusts through trust companies and administrators, expect a relationship before they open, and charge for every SWIFT payment and currency conversion. Personal offshore accounts start at £25,000 to £100,000 or more. Reviews take weeks, refusals are common, and the island's compensation scheme does not cover companies or trusts.
You do not have to wait on an island bank. Our licensed banking partners open multi-currency accounts for companies owned from abroad in days, fully remotely, with no minimum balance. We prepare the file, choose the partner most likely to approve it and handle every question, so you have one point of contact.
Our licensed banking partners are rated highly by founders with offshore structures, and they open multi-currency accounts without a branch visit or a relationship deposit.

Why a Jersey Offshore Bank Account Is Hard to Open
A Jersey offshore bank account is hard to open because the island's banks do not market accounts to companies abroad directly. They work through regulated intermediaries, set entry points by balance, and review every owner, trust and source of money in detail. A sound company can still wait weeks and be refused without a reason.
Offshore Banks Work Through Intermediaries
Butterfield's corporate accounts are built for trust companies, fund administrators, law firms and other intermediaries. Standard Bank's Strata account is for trust and corporate service providers regulated in the Crown Dependencies. Santander International's Jersey branch offers treasury services to regulated and institutional wealth managers. For a company owned from abroad, the door to offshore banking in Jersey is usually a trust company, and the trust company charges for opening it. Our guide to banking for trusts and foundations covers how structures are banked.
The Island High Street Is for Local Businesses
The banks that sell business accounts directly, NatWest International, HSBC and Lloyds, want companies that trade on the island with owners who live there. NatWest International asks for every owner and director to live in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar. A company run from abroad does not qualify, however strong it is.
Open an Offshore Bank Account in Jersey
A Jersey offshore bank account is very doable when the file is right and the provider fits. This is what we do for you.
- Owners anywhere: Directors, shareholders and trusts above the company can sit abroad.
- No intermediary needed: Our partners accept the company directly.
- No relationship deposit: Accounts open with no minimum balance.
- Multi-currency from day one: GBP, EUR, USD and more, with real IBANs.
- Open in days: Identity checked online, no branch visit.
- Avoid a rejection: We fix the file before anything is submitted.
- One point of contact: We answer the follow-up questions for you.
Strict Checks on Offshore Structures
Jersey applies the JFSC's AML Handbook in full, and MONEYVAL rated the island compliant or largely compliant on 39 of 40 FATF Recommendations in 2024. Every owner is traced to a real person, including through companies and trusts. The bank wants evidence of source of wealth, the source of the money coming into the account, and a clear reason for holding it in Jersey. Our guide to KYC for business account opening explains each check.
Offshore Does Not Mean Secret
Jersey was an early adopter of the Common Reporting Standard, with first exchanges in 2017. A Jersey bank reports accounts held by residents of other countries, including companies controlled by them, to the tax authority where the owners live. An application that looks designed to avoid reporting is refused. See is an offshore company legal for the wider picture.
Countries and Sectors Banks Avoid
Crypto, gambling, money services and structures with owners or customers in higher-risk countries are declined by most Jersey banks without a detailed review. So are complex chains with no clear purpose. A company in one of these groups needs a provider that already accepts its profile. The common reasons are covered in a business account rejected.
What to Do After a Refusal
Refusals are common and rarely explained, and the next application form asks about them. Do not send the same file elsewhere. Find the reason, whether it is residence, the structure, the sector or the documents, fix what can be fixed and apply once to a provider whose rules you meet. Our guide to the easiest offshore bank account to open compares the realistic options.
Jersey Banks for Offshore Accounts
Jersey had 19 registered banks at the end of March 2026, holding £193.1 billion of deposits. Only some of them offer offshore accounts to clients abroad, and each has a narrow entry point: an intermediary for companies and trusts, or a minimum balance for individuals.
Bank | Who it takes | Who it turns away | Monthly fee or entry point |
|---|---|---|---|
Butterfield | Trust companies, fund administrators, law firms and other intermediaries | Companies applying without an intermediary | Relationship based, with a maintenance fee at the bank's discretion |
Standard Bank | Trust and corporate service providers regulated in the Crown Dependencies | Companies applying directly | Relationship based |
Santander International | Regulated wealth managers, with corporate deposit bands from under £75,000 to over £500,000 | Clients needing cash handling or lending | Relationship based |
Investec | Corporates and family offices | Companies outside that focus | Relationship based |
HSBC Expat | Individuals who save or invest £75,000, pay in a £120,000 salary or already hold HSBC Premier | Companies, and individuals below the threshold | No monthly fee while eligible, an underfunding fee otherwise |
Lloyds Bank International | Individuals, with the International Current Account Plus open to anyone | Companies | £20, waived with a £10,000 balance |
Citi International Personal Bank | Individuals, generally with US$200,000 or more | Companies and smaller balances | Relationship based |
The pattern is the same across the island. Companies and trusts get in through an intermediary and pay for the relationship, and individuals get in by keeping a large balance. Neither route is built for a company that simply needs to pay and be paid. More detail on the business banks is in our guide to NatWest International, Butterfield and HSBC business accounts in Jersey.
Payment Fees Set for Private Banking
Butterfield charges £25 or £37 for an online SWIFT payment, depending on who pays the charges, and £80 to £92 for a manual instruction. CHAPS costs £25. A structure that pays managers, lenders and suppliers abroad pays these fees on every transfer.
Currency Margins Built Into the Rate
Jersey banks do not publish their FX margins. They are built into the quoted rate and often land between 1% and 3% over the interbank rate. With most offshore money held in dollars and euros, conversion is usually the largest cost of offshore banking in Jersey.
Minimums and Relationship Deposits
HSBC Expat asks for £75,000 within three months. Barclays International asks for £100,000 in savings or investments, or £250,000 for relationship management. Santander International charges £40 a month to customers outside the islands, the UK and Ireland who hold under £75,000, and NatWest International's International Select account needs £25,000. Money parked to meet a threshold earns little and cannot be used. Compare the best countries to open an offshore bank account if Jersey is not fixed.
No Deposit Cover for Companies or Trusts
Jersey's Bank Depositors Compensation Scheme pays up to £50,000 per eligible depositor per banking group, and since 1 April 2026 it aims to pay within 7 working days. It covers individuals and Jersey-registered charities. Companies and trusts are not covered, so an offshore company's balance at a Jersey bank carries no scheme protection at all.
Personal Offshore Accounts in Jersey
Most searches for an offshore bank account in Jersey are about personal accounts, and those are the table's lower rows: HSBC Expat, Lloyds, Barclays, Santander, NatWest International and Citi. They are designed for individuals with savings or salary abroad and cannot be used to run a company. An individual who wants to open an offshore account in Jersey has to meet those thresholds first. For the personal route, read how to open a Jersey bank account as a non-resident.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Jersey Business Account
There is a better alternative to the island's offshore banks for most companies. Our banking partners are licensed electronic money institutions that accept companies owned from abroad directly, without a trust company in the middle. They open a Jersey business account in days, fully remotely, with no minimum balance and no relationship deposit.
The account does what an offshore company needs: GBP, EUR and USD balances in one place, real IBANs, SEPA and SWIFT payments, cards and online banking. Payments and currency conversion cost a fraction of private banking rates, and there is no idle balance to maintain. Read more about multi-currency business accounts in Jersey.
Feature | Jersey offshore banks | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Who they accept | Companies and trusts through an intermediary, individuals above a threshold | Companies owned from abroad, applying directly |
Time to open | Several weeks, often longer through an intermediary | About 4 days from a complete file |
Minimum balance | A relationship for companies; £25,000 to £100,000 or more for individuals | None |
Monthly cost | Relationship based | About €10 to €100 on a published plan |
Currencies | A separate account for each currency | Several currencies in one account, with real IBANs |
International payments | £25 to £37 online, up to £92 by manual instruction | About €5 to €25 per payment |
Foreign exchange | Often 1% to 3%, built into the rate | About 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate |
For a company abroad that wants to open a Jersey business account, the partner route is faster and cheaper on every line that matters. The island banks still suit large, long-term deposits held through a trust company.
Open a Business Bank Account in Jersey for an Offshore Company
If your offshore company is a Jersey company, you can open a business bank account in Jersey with our partners from the week it is formed. Send us the company documents and each owner's passport, complete a short online identity check, and we place the file with the partner that fits. For groups and holding structures, read about bank accounts for Jersey holding companies, or for single-asset vehicles, how to open a bank account for a Jersey SPV.
How Client Money Is Safeguarded
Our partners must safeguard client money, keeping it apart from their own funds in segregated accounts or backing it with insurance or a guarantee. E-money is not covered by a deposit scheme, but neither is a company's deposit at a Jersey bank. The differences are set out in business bank account vs EMI account.

Documents for a Jersey Offshore Bank Account
The file for a Jersey offshore bank account is the company file plus the structure around it. A complete file is what turns weeks into days.
For the Company
The certificate of incorporation, the memorandum and articles, the registers of members and directors, an ownership chart that traces every corporate owner and trust to real people, and a board resolution naming who may operate the account. A Jersey company also shows its JFSC consent to issue shares and its registered office. The general list is in documents needed to open a business bank account.
For Each Owner, Director and Signatory
A passport, proof of address from the last three months, a note on source of wealth, and a CRS tax self-certification. Where a trust sits above the company, the provider asks for the trustee's details and the identity of the settlor, the protector and the main beneficiaries.
For the Purpose of the Account
What the company does or holds, where its money comes from and goes to, the currencies it uses and the volumes it expects. A holding company explains its subsidiaries and dividends; an investment company explains the portfolio and the manager.
Certification and Translation
Offshore banks usually want certified copies signed by a lawyer or notary and certified translations of documents in other languages. Our partners check identity online, which removes most of this work. The full list is in our guide to documents and requirements to open a Jersey bank account.
Prepare Your Offshore Account File
Offshore banking in Jersey moves fast when the file answers every question upfront. This is how we build it with you.
- Structure mapped: Companies and trusts traced to the real people behind them.
- Source of wealth written up: Short, clear and backed by documents.
- Purpose explained: Why the account exists and what will move through it.
- CRS forms ready: Completed correctly for every owner and controller.
- Right provider first time: Matched to your profile before submission.
- No certified paper copies: Identity checked online with our partners.
Jersey Offshore Bank Account Costs
A Jersey offshore bank account at an island bank is priced by relationship: the monthly fee is often not published, and the real cost sits in payment fees, currency margins and the balance you are expected to hold. With our partners, plans cost about €10 to €100 a month, with no minimum balance.
Charge | Typical range at a Jersey offshore bank | With our partners |
|---|---|---|
Account opening | Relationship based, often through a trust company that charges for the introduction | Free on most plans |
Monthly account fee | Relationship based for companies; £20 at Lloyds International unless £10,000 is held | About €10 to €100 on a published plan |
Minimum balance or relationship | £25,000 to £100,000 or more for individuals; corporate deposit bands from under £75,000 to over £500,000 | None |
Low-balance fee | £40 a month at Santander International below £75,000 for customers outside the islands, the UK and Ireland | None |
Maintenance fee | At the bank's discretion at some banks | None beyond the plan |
Additional currency accounts | A separate account for each currency | Included in one multi-currency account |
International payments out, online | £25 to £37 | About €5 to €25 per payment |
International payments out, manual | £80 to £92 | Online by default |
FX margin | Often 1% to 3%, built into the rate | About 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate |
Deposit protection for companies and trusts | None under the Jersey scheme | None, with client money safeguarded |
Periodic compliance review | Through the trust company, often with fresh document requests | Included |
Where the Money Goes
The currency line matters most. A structure that converts £500,000 a year at a 2% margin pays £10,000 for it; at 0.5% the same conversions cost £2,500. Add a relationship balance of £100,000 that earns little, and twelve SWIFT payments a month at £25 to £37, and the gap passes £10,000 a year before any monthly fee.
Where an Island Bank Can Be Cheaper
An individual who already holds £10,000 or more at Lloyds International pays no monthly fee, and a large family structure with a trust company can negotiate its payment and FX pricing. For a company that simply needs to trade, pay and get paid, the partner route costs less. Our guide to business bank account fees shows how to compare plans.
These figures are planning ranges drawn from published price lists in 2026. Your final price is confirmed in writing before you open an account.

How Long a Jersey Offshore Bank Account Takes
With our partners, an account for a company owned from abroad usually opens in about 4 days from a complete file. Through an island bank and a trust company, expect several weeks.
Stage | Jersey offshore bank | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Preparing the file | 1 to 3 weeks, including certified copies and the trust company's own checks | 1 to 3 days with our checklist |
Review and follow-up questions | Several weeks, often in rounds through the intermediary | 1 to 3 days, answered by us |
Account open and ready | After the review and the first deposit | About 4 days from a complete file, online access at once |
What Slows It Down
The usual delays on a Jersey offshore bank account are trusts above the company with no clear documents, owners who cannot be traced, source of wealth that is not evidenced and a purpose that is vague. Each one adds a round of questions, and a bank may close the file rather than ask.

Offshore Banking in Jersey After the Account Opens
Opening a Jersey offshore bank account is the start of ongoing checks, and offshore banking in Jersey comes with reporting that follows the owners home.
CRS Reporting
The account is reported each year under the Common Reporting Standard to the tax authority where each owner or controlling person lives. Tell your tax adviser at home about the account and the company from the start.
Periodic Reviews
Expect a review every one to three years, and sooner if payments change. The provider asks for updated identity documents, accounts and an explanation of new countries or activities.
Changes You Must Report
Report new directors, owners, signatories or trustees, and changes in what the company does. A Jersey company must also notify beneficial ownership changes to the JFSC within 21 days.
Why the Offshore Company Comes Before the Account
No provider opens an account for a company that does not exist. The company, its constitution and its ownership chart are the core of every bank file, so forming the company with the account in mind saves weeks. We form Jersey companies in about a week from €1,499 and open the account with the same KYC pack. Common Jersey Offshore Banking Mistakes
Most delays and refusals on a Jersey offshore bank account come from a few avoidable mistakes.
Treating Offshore as Secret
Accounts are reported under CRS, and a file that looks designed to hide owners is refused. Plan the tax position where the owners live before the account is opened.
Applying for a Personal Account for a Company
HSBC Expat, Lloyds International and Santander's current accounts are personal accounts. Company money in a personal account breaks the bank's terms and the company's records.
Parking Large Balances for a Relationship
A relationship deposit earns little, and for a company or trust it carries no deposit scheme cover. Hold what the business needs to operate and keep reserves under a clear treasury policy.
Layers With No Explanation
A company owned by a company owned by a trust is normal in Jersey, but only when each layer has a reason and documents. Explain every layer in the file, as covered in our guide to setting up a trust in Jersey.
Choosing on Reputation Alone
An island bank's name looks good on an invoice, but a company pays for it in fees, FX and waiting time. Choose on what the account must do.
Talk to Us About Offshore Banking in Jersey
Not sure whether you need an island bank, our partners or both? Tell us about the structure and we choose the right route, whether you need to open a Jersey business account or hold reserves offshore.
- Trusts and holding structures: Every layer documented for the provider.
- Owners in several countries: One file that works for all of them.
- Higher-risk sectors: We tell you honestly which providers will accept you.
- After a refusal: We find the reason and fix the file first.
- Company and account together: We form the company and open the account in one process.
Bottom Line
Jersey's offshore banks are strong institutions, but they reach companies through trust companies, set entry points by balance, charge for every payment and conversion, and leave companies and trusts outside the deposit scheme. For a company owned from abroad, the better route is a licensed partner that accepts it directly: an alternative to a Jersey offshore bank account that opens in about 4 days, fully remote, with several currencies, no minimum balance and far lower payment and FX costs. Whichever route you choose to open an offshore bank account in Jersey, form the company first, prepare a complete file and apply once to a provider that fits.
