Multi-Currency Business Accounts in Jersey in 2026

jersey1

A multi-currency business account in Jersey lets a company hold and pay in sterling, euros, dollars and other currencies from one place, on an island where about 70% of bank deposits are already in foreign currency. It suits holding companies receiving dividends from abroad, trading companies with customers in several countries and investment vehicles paying managers and lenders in their own currency.

Getting one is the hard part. Jersey's banks keep their currency accounts for local companies with local owners, often open a separate account for each currency, and charge for every payment in or out. A company owned from abroad is usually refused or sent to an intermediary bank that expects a relationship first.

There is a faster route. Our licensed banking partners open multi-currency accounts for Jersey companies in days, fully remotely, with real IBANs and no minimum balance. We build the file, place it with the partner most likely to approve it and answer the follow-up questions, so you deal with one team.

Our top-rated, licensed banking partners hold GBP, EUR, USD and more in one account for Jersey companies owned from anywhere, with no branch visit.

Why Multi-Currency Banking in Jersey Is Hard

A multi-currency business account in Jersey is hard to get because the island's banks build their currency accounts on top of their business accounts, and those are for local companies. A company owned from abroad fails the first test before its currencies are even discussed. Before you open a business bank account in Jersey with several currencies, check which base account you actually qualify for.

Currency Accounts Sit Behind the Residence Rule

NatWest International's Cash Management account holds more than 25 currencies under one account number, but it is for companies with owners and directors in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar, with one layer of ownership and no nominee shareholders. HSBC's business accounts want decision-makers who live locally, and Lloyds wants a company registered and operating in the islands. The currency features are only open to companies that qualify for the base account.

One Account per Currency

HSBC's international business accounts carry a yearly maintenance fee of £96 to £180 each, charged monthly. Lloyds offers currency call accounts with a £10,000 minimum. A company that holds four currencies at an island bank often holds four accounts, each with its own fees and statements. Compare the best multi-currency business accounts across providers.

Open a Business Bank Account in Jersey

A multi-currency business account in Jersey is very doable with the right partner and a complete file. This is what we handle for you.

  • Several currencies in one account: GBP, EUR, USD and more, with real IBANs.
  • Owners anywhere: Directors and shareholders can live outside the islands.
  • No minimum balance: No relationship deposit before the account opens.
  • Island banks want residents: Our partners do not, and they open in days.
  • Lower FX costs: About 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate.
  • Avoid a rejection: We fix gaps in the file before anything is submitted.
  • One point of contact: We answer the follow-up questions for you.

Fees on Every Currency Payment

Lloyds charges 25p per £100 on an international payment, with a minimum of £13 and a maximum of £40, and £7 to receive one. HSBC charges £17 to send an international payment online, £30 by phone or branch to another bank, and £6 to receive a currency payment of £100 or more. Correspondent banks can add their own charges on top.

Relationship Minimums

Intermediary banks such as Butterfield take companies owned from abroad through a trust company and price by relationship. Butterfield charges £25 or £37 for an online SWIFT payment and up to £92 for a manual one. Money parked to keep a relationship earns little and cannot be used in the business. Trusts and funds are covered in banking and custodian services for Jersey trusts and funds.

What to Do After a Refusal

Refusals are common and rarely explained, and the next application form asks about them. Find the rule you failed, fix what can be fixed and apply once to a provider whose rules you meet. Our guide to a business account rejected covers the common reasons.

Jersey Banks for Currency Accounts

Jersey has 19 registered banks, and several offer something close to a multi-currency business account in Jersey to their business customers. Each one ties them to its own business account rules.

Who it takes

NatWest International

Companies with owners and directors living in the islands or Gibraltar

HSBC

Lloyds Bank

Companies registered and operating in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man

Call accounts in GBP, EUR, USD and other major currencies

Barclays

Butterfield

The currency features look broad, but they come after the business account, and the business account comes after the residence rule. For a company owned from abroad, the realistic island route is an intermediary bank, priced by relationship. More detail is in our guide to NatWest International, Butterfield and HSBC business accounts in Jersey.

Payment Charges Add Up

Using an island bank as a business account in Jersey for international payments is expensive. A company that sends and receives ten currency payments a month at an island bank pays £13 to £40 on each payment out and £6 to £7 on each payment in, before correspondent bank fees. Over a year that runs into thousands of pounds for an ordinary trading company.

Currency Margins Built Into the Rate

The island banks do not publish their FX margins. They are built into the rate you are quoted and often land between 1% and 3% over the interbank rate. HSBC also charges 2.75% on card spending in other currencies. For a company with most of its money in foreign currency, this is usually the largest banking cost. Our guide to the multi-currency business account explains how margins work.

Separate Statements for Each Currency

With one account per currency, each has its own statements, reconciliation and review. Moving money between them is a conversion at the bank's rate, not a transfer inside one account.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Jersey Business Account

There is a better alternative to the island banks for most companies owned from abroad. Our banking partners are licensed electronic money institutions that open a Jersey business account with several currencies in days, fully remotely, with no residence rule and no minimum balance.

One multi-currency business account in Jersey holds GBP, EUR, USD and other currencies, with real IBANs for receiving payments, SEPA and SWIFT for sending them, and conversion at a published margin. There are no separate accounts to open for each currency and no relationship deposit to keep.

A Business Account in Jersey for International Payments

A business account in Jersey for international payments needs three things: IBANs customers can pay into, low fees on payments out, and a fair conversion rate. Our partners are built around those three, which is why most companies with customers and suppliers abroad use them from the first month. Read our guide to international payments for businesses.

How Client Money Is Safeguarded

Our partners must safeguard client money, keeping it apart from their own funds. E-money is not covered by a deposit scheme, but Jersey's depositor compensation scheme does not cover companies either, so a company's currency balances at a Jersey bank have no scheme cover. The differences are set out in business bank account vs EMI account.

How a Multi-Currency Business Account in Jersey Works

The mechanics are simple once you know how Jersey fits into the payment systems.

IBANs and the GB Country Code

Jersey bank accounts carry IBANs starting with GB, not JE. The JE code appears only in a Jersey bank's BIC, such as NatWest International's RBOSJESH. Customers and suppliers treat a Jersey IBAN like a UK one when they pay it. Read more about IBAN accounts for businesses.

SEPA Payments in Euros

Jersey has been inside the SEPA scheme area since 1 May 2016, alongside Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Euro payments can move to and from EU accounts on SEPA terms rather than as SWIFT payments, which is faster and cheaper.

Sterling Payments

The Jersey pound has the same value as sterling, and British money is used freely on the island. Sterling is the working currency for local costs, such as the administrator's fees and the annual confirmation statement, as set out in the cost of Jersey company formation.

Converting Between Currencies

In a multi-currency account, converting is a movement between balances in the same account at the provider's rate. The margin over the interbank rate is the real price, which is why it matters more than the monthly fee.

A Jersey Multi-Currency Corporate Account for Groups

A holding company with subsidiaries in several countries uses a Jersey multi-currency corporate account to receive dividends in each currency and fund the subsidiaries without converting through sterling each time. Read about bank accounts for Jersey holding companies and banking for multi-entity groups.

Documents Needed for a Jersey Currency Account

Every provider of a multi-currency business account in Jersey asks for the same core file. A complete file is what turns weeks into days.

For the Company

The certificate of incorporation, the memorandum and articles, the registers of members and directors, an ownership chart that traces every corporate owner to real people, and a board resolution naming who may operate the account. If the company is not formed yet, read how to register a private company in Jersey.

For Each Director, Owner and Signatory

A passport, proof of address from the last three months, a note on source of wealth and a CRS tax self-certification.

For the Currency Flows

The currencies the company will use, the countries it will pay and be paid from, and the expected monthly volumes in each. Providers compare this with the payments that actually arrive, so realistic figures prevent questions later. The full list is in documents and requirements to open a Jersey bank account.

Prepare Your Jersey Currency Account File

A clean file is what gets a multi-currency business account in Jersey opened in days. This is how we prepare it with you.

  • One checklist: Exactly what each owner and director needs to send.
  • Currency flows written up: Which currencies, which countries, what volumes.
  • Ownership traced for you: Corporate owners mapped to real people.
  • Right provider first time: Matched to your currencies and profile.
  • No certified paper copies: Identity checked online with our partners.
  • Questions answered fast: We reply to follow-ups the same day.

Multi-Currency Business Account Costs in Jersey

At an island bank, a multi-currency setup costs a monthly fee for the main account, a yearly fee for each currency account and a charge on every payment in and out. With our partners, a multi-currency business account in Jersey costs about €10 to €100 a month on one plan and covers several currencies.

Where the Money Goes

A company that converts £1 million a year at a 2% margin pays £20,000 for it. At 0.5%, the same conversions cost £5,000. Add ten payments out a month at £13 to £40 each, and the island route costs thousands more a year before any monthly fee. Our guide to business bank account fees shows how to compare plans.

Where a Jersey Bank Is Cheaper

A local company with local owners that mostly deals in sterling and sends occasional euro payments pays £8 to £10 a month at HSBC and 24p per SEPA payment. For that company, an island account is cheaper than any partner plan.

These figures are planning ranges drawn from published price lists in 2026. Your final price is confirmed in writing before you open an account.

Why the Company Comes Before the Account

No provider opens an account for a company that does not exist yet. The company's certificate, constitution and ownership chart are the core of every bank file, so forming the company with the account in mind saves weeks. We form Jersey companies in about a week from €1,499 and open the multi-currency business account in Jersey with the same KYC pack. Common Multi-Currency Banking Mistakes

Most extra cost and delay with a multi-currency business account in Jersey comes from a few avoidable mistakes.

Comparing Monthly Fees Instead of FX

The monthly fee is the smallest cost for a company with foreign currency income. Compare the FX margin and the payment charges first.

Opening a Separate Account for Every Currency

Separate accounts mean separate fees, statements and conversions. One multi-currency account keeps the balances together.

Converting Everything Through Sterling

A company that receives euros and pays euros does not need to convert them. Hold each currency and pay from it.

Applying to the Island Banks From Abroad

Owners abroad fail the residence rules at NatWest International, HSBC and Lloyds, and each refusal must be declared on the next form. To open a Jersey business account from abroad, start with a provider whose rules you meet. Read how to open a business bank account in Jersey.

Underestimating Currency Volumes

Payments far above the volumes in the application trigger reviews and holds. Give realistic figures for each currency from the start.

Talk to Us About Multi-Currency Banking in Jersey

Not sure which provider fits your currencies? Tell us where your money comes from and goes, and we choose the right partner.

  • Many currencies: A provider that holds the ones you actually use.
  • Holding structures: Dividends in several currencies, one account.
  • Higher-risk countries or sectors: We tell you honestly who will accept you.
  • After a refusal: We find the reason and fix the file first.
  • Company and account together: We form the company and open the account in one process.

Bottom Line

Jersey's banks do offer currency accounts, but they sit behind residence rules, often need a separate account for each currency, and charge on every payment in and out, with FX margins built into the rate. For a company owned from abroad, the better route is to open a multi-currency business account in Jersey with a licensed partner: GBP, EUR, USD and more in one account with real IBANs, open in about 4 days, with no minimum balance and FX at about 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate. Form the company first, give realistic currency flows and apply once to a provider that fits. For offshore structures, read our guide to an offshore bank account in Jersey.
