When you open a business bank account in Belgium, your company gets a euro IBAN for SEPA payments across Europe, a place for clients to pay you and deposits protected up to €100,000 per bank. A new BV or NV needs a bank even before the notary signs, because cash contributions go into a blocked account first.
Getting one is the hard part for foreign owners. Belgian banks open accounts online through itsme, the Belgian digital ID, and an adviser review. Every director and beneficial owner is identified under the anti-money laundering law. High risk sectors pay a €3,025 yearly compliance fee at KBC, and a foreign file can wait weeks.
This is where we come in. We work with regulated partners who open euro and multi-currency accounts for Belgian and foreign companies in about 4 days, fully remotely. We handle the file: the KBO extract, the UBO register entry, your KYC pack and the source of funds. You send us your details, and we get it done.
Our top-rated, licensed banking providers open euro and multi-currency accounts for Belgian BVs, NVs and foreign companies in about 4 days, with no branch visit and no itsme needed.

Belgium Business Bank Account for Non-Residents
A Belgium business bank account for non-residents is possible, but Belgian banks make the route slow for foreign owners. Online opening runs through itsme and an adviser, every director and beneficial owner is identified, and each bank decides case by case. A complete file usually gets through. A file with gaps gets questions and delays.
Belgian Banks Open Accounts Through itsme
Online opening at Belgian banks leans on itsme, the Belgian digital identity app. KBC says it retrieves a new client's data automatically with itsme when its KBC-Business PRO account is opened online. itsme can be activated with some foreign documents, but its own help pages say some Belgian services need an itsme account linked to a Belgian eID, because only that card holds the national register number. BNP Paribas Fortis takes the first step online, but an adviser finalises every business pack application, and the offer is subject to acceptance. A director with neither often plans a branch visit.
Every Director and Owner Is Identified
Belgium's anti-money laundering law of 18 September 2017 makes the bank identify the company, the people who act for it and every beneficial owner before the account opens. Belgian companies also record their beneficial owners in the UBO register kept by the FPS Finance, and the bank compares that entry with the ownership chart you give it. A European holding company above the Belgian BV means documents for every layer. Money from abroad needs a written source of funds with evidence.
Open a Business Bank Account in Belgium
You can open a business bank account in Belgium for your BV, NV or foreign company without a branch visit or an itsme account. This is what we handle for you.
- Remote identity check: Directors verify online, from wherever they live.
- Foreign owners accepted: Directors and shareholders outside Belgium can apply.
- Account in about 4 days: Not the weeks a foreign file can spend in a bank queue.
- EU IBAN for SEPA: Get paid by Belgian clients and pay suppliers in euros.
- Free to open: No opening fee, with plans from about €10 a month.
- KYC pack prepared: We tell you what we need and build the file for you.
Open a Belgium Business Bank Account From Overseas
To open a Belgium business bank account from overseas, the director needs a working itsme account or time in Belgium. Belfius says starters get specific conditions and sends them to its branches for details, and ING prices its company account by client type, with a lower fee for digital clients and a higher one for companies with an assigned banker. A founder in Dubai, London or Singapore with a new Belgian BV often waits on travel plans before the account exists. Our guide to opening a business bank account remotely explains the route that does not depend on a visit.
High Risk Sectors Pay More or Are Refused
Some sectors pay extra just to keep a Belgian corporate bank account. KBC's tariff for professional accounts, valid from 1 February 2026, adds a yearly fee for monitoring compliance with the law: €3,025 for gambling, virtual currency traders, night shops, the arms trade and waste processing, €30,250 for diamond dealers with professional transactions and €42,350 for first division football clubs. At banks that publish no such fee, these files face enhanced checks and are often declined. Crypto and Web3 companies and gaming firms should read our guide on how to open a high risk bank account before they apply.
A Refusal Follows You
A refusal costs more than time. Each new application asks whether another bank has turned you down, and an honest yes leads to more questions. Belgian law helps a little here: under Article VII.59/4 of the Code of Economic Law, a bank must explain a refusal to a company in writing within 10 working days, unless anti-money laundering rules prevent it. Ask for that letter. It tells you which part of the file to fix before the next application.
The Basic Banking Service for Companies
Belgium has a legal last resort. Since 16 January 2023, a company established in Belgium and registered in the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (KBO or BCE) can apply to the basic banking service chamber at the FPS Economy after three credit institutions refused it. The chamber then has two months to designate a large Belgian bank, which opens the account within 10 working days. You cannot choose the bank. A complete file placed with a provider that takes your company is faster.

Best Bank for Business in Belgium
The best bank for business in Belgium depends on where your directors live and how much you pay abroad. Monthly fees at the four big banks run from about €2 to €40, which is cheap. The cost sits in international payments, currency margins and sector fees, and the access rules favour residents with itsme.
Bank | Who it takes | Who it turns away or charges more | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|---|
BNP Paribas Fortis | Sole traders and companies, online application finalised with an adviser | Any file it does not accept after review; its free Hello Pack Pro is for sole traders only | €2 to €12.50 (€6 to €37.50 a quarter, VAT included) |
KBC (KBC Brussels and CBC) | Companies opening online with itsme; Brussels and Wallonia clients through KBC Brussels and CBC | High risk sectors pay €3,025 a year extra, diamond dealers €30,250 | €3 to €13.25 (€36 to €159 a year, VAT included) |
Belfius | Self-employed people, professions and SMEs, starters through a branch | No published residency rule, but every file goes through anti-money laundering checks | €3.50 for the account, €4.25 to €7.50 for a Business Pack |
ING Belgium | Companies priced by size, from digital clients to firms with an assigned banker | No payments to Syria, Iran, Cuba, North Korea or North Sudan | €6.50 to €34 plus a €6 service fee before VAT |
On the monthly fee alone, a Belgian corporate bank account is cheap, and for a Belgian resident with a simple BV it is often the cheapest choice. For a foreign owner, the real price is the itsme and adviser route, the time in review and the fees on every payment that leaves the euro or the SEPA area.
Low Monthly Fees, Costly Payments Abroad
Belgian business accounts include online SEPA transfers, but payments outside SEPA carry their own fees. Belfius charges €8 for an outgoing euro payment outside SEPA and 0.10% for other currencies, at least €8 and at most €100, with €6 to €100 on incoming payments. ING Belgium charges 0.12% each way, at least €12 and at most €120. Paying all the charges abroad (OUR) adds €9 to €50 per payment at ING, by country. Twenty supplier payments a month at ING's €12 minimum cost €240 before any currency margin.
Wide Currency Margins
ING Belgium's standard margin on currency conversion is 3.25% for US dollars, pounds, Swiss francs and other main currencies on amounts under €100,000, 3.50% for currencies such as the yuan and 3.75% for the Indian rupee and Turkish lira. Converting €200,000 a year at 3.25% costs €6,500. Belfius applies a 1.50% margin to card payments outside the euro area. A multi-currency business account lets you hold and pay in the invoice currency instead.
Is There a Free Business Bank Account in Belgium
A free business bank account in Belgium exists only for sole traders. BNP Paribas Fortis offers its Hello Pack Pro free, but only to self-employed people trading in their own name, not to companies. For a BV or NV, the cheapest published options are BNP Paribas Fortis's Compte à vue Pro at €6 a quarter and the KBC-Bedrijfsrekening at €36 a year, plus €9 a year for a debit card. Payment and currency fees apply on top.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Belgium Business Account
The faster way to open a Belgium business account is through our regulated partners. They are EU-licensed e-money and payment institutions, supervised by the Malta Financial Services Authority and by Luxembourg's CSSF. They open euro and multi-currency accounts in about 4 days, fully online, with no itsme, no Belgian eID and no branch visit.
We prepare the file before the partner sees it: the KBO extract, the deed and articles, the UBO register extract, the directors' passports, a plain description of the business and a written source of funds. Client money is safeguarded in segregated accounts, separate from the partner's own funds, rather than covered by the deposit guarantee.
Under Article 9 of the SEPA Regulation (EU) No 260/2012, a payer or payee may not require your euro account to be in a particular EU member state. An EU IBAN from our partners works for Belgian clients, suppliers and public bodies, and since 9 October 2025 every euro area payment provider checks the payee name before a transfer. Our guide to a business bank account in Europe covers the wider EU picture.
Feature | Belgian banks | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Time to open | Days for a resident with itsme, weeks for many foreign files | About 4 days |
Who they accept | Mostly Belgian companies with resident directors | Belgian and foreign companies with owners abroad |
Identity check | itsme or a branch, then an adviser review | Online, from abroad |
Opening fee | Free | Free |
Monthly cost | About €2 to €40 | From €9.99 to €100 on published plans |
Currencies | Euro, with other currencies as an extra service | Euro and other currencies in one account |
International payments | 0.10% to 0.12%, minimum €8 to €12 | From €5 at one partner, shown before you pay |
Currency conversion | Up to 3.25% at ING under €100,000 | From 0.25% on published plans |
Protection | €100,000 per depositor per bank | Client money safeguarded in segregated accounts |
For a foreign-owned BV, or any company that pays across borders or in other currencies, our partners are faster and cheaper. A Belgian bank still wins on the monthly fee for a resident with a simple company that pays only in euros. Our partners do not lend, take cash or pay interest, so a company that needs a loan or a cash desk keeps a Belgian bank too. Read about business bank account vs EMI account for the full trade-off.
International Business Bank Account in Belgium
An international business bank account for Belgium suits foreign companies most. A UK, Dutch or Cypriot company that sells into Belgium, or opens a Belgian branch rather than a subsidiary, does not need a Belgian bank to receive euros from Belgian clients. The same goes for online shops that sell to Belgian customers and settle card income through international payment gateways. Our partners open the account in the company's own name with an EU IBAN, and the Belgian business uses it from day one.
How to Open a Business Bank Account in Belgium With Us
With us, it takes three steps. You send us your company details in the form. We build the file and submit it to the partner that fits your company. Each director verifies their identity online with a passport and a live selfie, which takes minutes. We answer the partner's questions and tell you when the account is live, in about 4 days.

Documents to Open a Business Bank Account in Belgium
The documents to open a business bank account in Belgium follow the anti-money laundering law. The bank verifies the company from its deed, articles and KBO entry, every director and beneficial owner from an official photo ID, and the money from evidence. Bring the whole set in one round.
Company Documents
For a Belgian BV or NV, the bank wants the notarial deed of incorporation with the articles, an extract from the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises showing the enterprise number and the directors, and the list of shareholders. A foreign company adds its home register extract, its articles and, for a branch, the Belgian branch registration in the KBO. Foreign documents may need an apostille and a certified translation into Dutch, French, German or English, so ask early.
Directors and Beneficial Owners
Every director and every beneficial owner holding more than 25% provides a valid passport or national ID card and proof of address. Add an extract from the Belgian UBO register and an ownership chart that shows each layer with percentages. The two must match, because a gap between the register and your chart stops the review early.
Business Profile and Source of Funds
Banks want to know what the company does, who its customers and suppliers are, which countries the money comes from and goes to, and the monthly volumes you expect. Add the VAT number once the FPS Finance issues it. A short written note on the source of funds, backed by bank statements, contracts or a sale agreement, saves a round of questions.
This is the checklist we work from:
- Deed and articles: the notarial deed with the articles, as filed.
- KBO extract: current, with the enterprise number and directors.
- UBO register extract: matching your ownership chart.
- Director and UBO IDs: passport or ID card, plus proof of address.
- VAT number: once the FPS Finance has issued it.
- Source of funds: a written note with statements or contracts.
- Business description: activity, customers, countries and expected volumes.
Read more: Documents needed to open a business bank account and a European business bank account for non-residents.
Prepare Your Belgium Business Bank Account File
A Belgium business bank account opens fastest when the deed, the KBO entry, the UBO register and your file tell the same story. We build it with you.
- KBO extract ready: Enterprise number, directors and seat all current.
- UBO register checked: Entry matched against your ownership chart.
- Foreign papers sorted: Apostilles and translations flagged before you apply.
- Source of funds written: Clear, evidenced and in the form reviewers expect.
- Business profile drafted: Activity, countries and volumes in plain words.
Belgium Business Bank Account Costs
A Belgium business bank account costs about €2 to €40 a month at the four big banks, plus 0.10% to 0.12% on payments outside SEPA with €8 to €12 minimums and currency margins up to 3.25%. Our partners charge from €9.99 to €100 a month on published plans, open free and convert from 0.25%.
Charge | Typical range at a local bank | With our partners |
|---|---|---|
Account opening | Free at the four banks | Free |
Monthly fee | €2 to €13.25 at BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC and Belfius, €12.50 to €40 at ING | From €9.99 to €100 on published plans |
Extra debit card | €9 a year at KBC, €1 a month at ING | Shown on the plan |
Extra currencies | Multi-currency service €3.75 per half year at Belfius | Several currencies in one account |
Online SEPA transfers | Included at all four banks | Shown on the plan |
Branch or paper transfers | €1.03 at Belfius, €2 at KBC, €8 by an ING employee | Not needed, everything runs online |
International payments out | 0.10%, €8 to €100 at Belfius; 0.12%, €12 to €120 at ING | From €5 at one partner, shown before you pay |
International payments in | 0.10%, €6 to €100 at Belfius; 0.12%, €12 to €120 at ING | Shown on the plan |
Paying all charges (OUR) | €9 to €50 extra at ING, from €5 at Belfius | Shown before you pay |
Currency conversion | 3.25% to 3.75% at ING under €100,000 | From 0.25% on published plans |
Cash deposit at the counter | €5 at KBC, 0.10% with a €3 minimum at ING | No cash handling |
Research, recall or change | €24.79 at Belfius, €25 to €75 at ING | Quoted with your setup |
High risk sector fee | €3,025 a year at KBC, €30,250 for diamond dealers | Quoted with your setup |
Deposit protection | €100,000 per depositor per bank | Client money safeguarded in segregated accounts |
The markup sits in the fees around the account, not in the monthly price. Take a trading company that converts €200,000 a year into US dollars in 20 payments a month through ING Belgium. The currency margin at 3.25% costs €6,500, the payment commission at the €12 minimum adds €2,880, and the account itself is about €150 a year. The same conversions at a 0.25% margin cost €500, on a plan of €85 a month.
For a Belgian resident with a small BV that pays only in euros, a Belgian bank is often cheaper, and KBC's €36 a year is hard to beat. For a foreign-owned company that pays across borders, our partners usually cost less. All figures are planning ranges from the banks' own published tariffs, and we confirm your price in writing before you apply.

How Long Opening a Belgium Business Account Takes
Opening a Belgium business account at a Belgian bank is quick for a resident director with itsme and a complete file. With foreign owners, the adviser review and a branch visit can stretch it to weeks. With our partners, the account opens in about 4 days once the documents are ready, wherever the owners live.
Stage | Local bank | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Blocked capital account | In the company's name, before the deed | Still at a bank, before the deed |
Notarial deed and KBO entry | Before the operating account | Before the account |
UBO register entry | Checked against your ownership chart | Checked against your file |
Identity check of directors | itsme or a branch visit | Online from abroad, in minutes |
Review and questions | Adviser review, longer for foreign owners | Part of the 4 days |
After three refusals | Basic banking service, up to 2 months plus 10 working days | Not needed |
The steps before the account are the same on both routes. The difference is the review: a Belgian bank works through a foreign file at its own pace, while our partners review a file built for them.
What Slows It Down
The usual delays are a director with no itsme who must travel, a UBO register entry that does not match the shareholder list, a foreign holding company with no documents, papers without an apostille or translation, and a source of funds with no evidence. Each one adds a round of questions.
How to Speed It Up
File the UBO register entry as soon as the company has its enterprise number. Collect every document in one round, and answer the provider's questions the same day. Apply to one provider that takes your owners' countries, rather than to three banks at once. Three refusals only open the slow basic banking service route.

What Happens After the Account Is Open
After the account opens, fund it, add your users and share the IBAN with clients, suppliers and the tax authorities. Then keep the company in good order, because banks and partners review every client again over time. The first months set the pattern your provider checks later payments against.
Belgian companies pay corporate income tax at 25%, with a reduced 20% rate on the first €100,000 of profit for qualifying SMEs, according to PwC's Worldwide Tax Summaries reviewed on 10 September 2026. File returns on time and charge VAT where it applies.
Update the UBO register when owners change, and tell your provider about new owners, directors or activities before the payments change. From 10 July 2027, the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 applies one rulebook to every bank and payment institution, so expect the same questions in every EU country. The same clean file makes a second account quick, whether in Luxembourg, Ireland, Malta or Cyprus.

Why the Company Comes Before the Account
A bank cannot open an operating account for a company that does not exist yet. Since the 2019 Companies and Associations Code, a Belgian BV has no minimum capital, but it needs sufficient starting equity and a financial plan signed by the founders. An NV needs at least €61,500. The federal business portal says you open a bank account in the company's name before the deed is drawn up, and a bank certificate may be required. Belfius issues its capital blocking certificate free. This one step needs a bank, because our partners do not hold blocked capital. After the deed and the KBO entry, the day-to-day account opens with our partners. If you have not set up yet, see how to set up a company as a non-resident.
Common Belgium Business Bank Account Mistakes
Most problems with a Belgium business bank account come from applying to the wrong bank with an incomplete file. These are the mistakes we see most often, with what they cost. Each one is easy to avoid when you check the bank's rules and your documents before the first application.
Counting on itsme Without a Belgian Card
Founders often start the online form at a Belgian bank and only then find that the process runs through itsme. itsme works with some foreign documents, but some Belgian services need an itsme account linked to a Belgian eID. A director abroad then has to book a branch visit, which can mean a flight and several days lost, while the share capital sits blocked and the company cannot invoice or pay its first suppliers. Check how the bank identifies directors before you apply, or use a provider that verifies directors online from any country.
Ignoring the High Risk Sector Fee
A crypto trader or gaming company that opens a KBC-Business PRO account for €51 a year can find a second charge on the tariff: €3,025 a year for monitoring compliance, billed monthly. That is about €252 a month on top of the account. Diamond dealers pay €30,250. Read the sector section of the tariff before you sign, and check whether your activity is on the list. For crypto, gaming and other sectors that banks price this way, plan the account around a provider that takes your sector from the start.
Paying Capital Into the Wrong Account
Some founders transfer the share capital into an ordinary account, or into a personal one, instead of the blocked account in the name of the company in formation. The notary then has no valid certificate and cannot sign the deed on the planned date. Belfius issues the capital certificate free but charges €25 to reissue it after a client error, and the new date with the notary costs more time than money. Open the blocked account in the company's name first, send the exact amount stated in the deed, and ask the bank for the certificate before you book the notary.

- Refused before: We review the bank's letter and fix the file.
- Honest view on cost: We tell you when a Belgian bank is the cheaper choice.

- One point of contact: From the first document to the first payment.
- Online sellers covered: Accounts for shops that sell across Europe.
Bottom Line
A business bank account in Belgium is cheap and easy for a resident with itsme and a simple BV, and slow for most foreign owners. Belgian banks charge about €2 to €40 a month, but non-SEPA payments cost 0.10% to 0.12% with €8 to €12 minimums, currency margins reach 3.25% and high risk sectors pay €3,025 a year at KBC.
For a foreign-owned BV, an NV or a foreign company selling into Belgium, the faster route is a regulated partner with an EU IBAN that works across SEPA. Keep a Belgian bank for the blocked capital account and for loans or cash. With a complete file, you can open a business bank account in Belgium in about 4 days, without a branch visit.
