The best banks for Cyprus companies give you a euro account inside the EU, instant SEPA payments and deposit cover of up to €100,000 for the company itself. The three largest are supervised directly by the European Central Bank, and there are no exchange controls on moving profits out of Cyprus.
Getting in is the hard part. Only eight banks are left in the Cyprus banking association, down from twelve in 2013, and they charge many international companies €200 to €500 just to assess a file. Most want a visit or a meeting, proof of real activity on the island and weeks of review. Crypto, gambling and complex structures are often refused, and a refusal follows you to the next bank.
This is where we come in. We build the whole file with you: company records, ownership chart, source of funds and the KYC pack Cyprus reviewers expect. Our licensed banking partners then open a multi-currency account in days, fully online. One team, one contact and no chasing emails.
Our licensed banking partners, rated highly by international founders, open multi-currency accounts for Cyprus companies in days, with no trip to Cyprus.

Why Cyprus Bank Accounts Are Hard for Non-Residents
Cyprus bank accounts are hard for non-residents because the banks review international companies by hand and price that work into their fees. Even the best banks for Cyprus companies treat a company owned and run from abroad, with no office or staff on the island, as the profile the rules tell them to question most closely.
Fewer Banks After Consolidation
The Association of Cyprus Banks had eight member banks in 2026, against twelve in 2013, and 155 branches against 384. Eurobank bought all of Hellenic Bank and merged it with Eurobank Cyprus on 1 September 2025 as Eurobank Limited. Alpha Bank Cyprus took over AstroBank's business on 31 October 2025, and RCB gave up its licence in 2022.
Fewer banks means fewer places to apply, and each one can afford to be selective. A file that one bank declines has only a handful of other doors, and they will ask why the first bank said no.
Shell Company Rules Under the 2025 Directive
The Central Bank of Cyprus replaced its 2019 anti-money laundering directive with a new one in force from 2 June 2025. A shell company is still a company with no physical presence beyond a postal address or no established business activity, and banks must refuse one that is registered where audited accounts are not required or that sits on the EU or Global Forum lists of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions.
Paragraph 37(3) of the new directive is the change most guides miss. A company that trades remotely, such as an online shop, a digital or affiliate marketing business, or a software or consulting firm, can fall outside the shell definition if it proves the activity. Banks look for financial statements, active accounts, tax returns, a website, customer details, contracts and invoices, on top of the usual KYC for business account opening. It helps online businesses, but only with documents.
Open a Business Bank Account in Cyprus
Opening a business bank account in Cyprus is very doable with the right partner and a complete file. This is what we handle for you.
- Fully online: No trip to Cyprus, no branch visit and no scheduled meeting.
- Licensed partners: Regulated e-money institutions that onboard international companies every day.
- Banks slow to onboard: Our partners open in days, not after weeks of review.
- Multi-currency from day one: EUR, GBP, USD, AED and more under one login.
- KYC pack prepared: We build the file reviewers ask for, before anyone asks.
- Avoid a rejection: We check the fit before a single document is submitted.
- One point of contact: No back-and-forth emails, one team that gets it done.
Real Presence in Cyprus Helps
Ancoria Bank says banks increasingly want evidence of real activity in Cyprus, such as an office lease, local staff and registration with Social Insurance. A company run entirely from abroad can still open a business bank account in Cyprus as a non-resident, but it has to explain its purpose, its customers and why it is in Cyprus, with documents rather than a paragraph.
Sectors the Banks Refuse
Bank of Cyprus lists shell companies, bearer-share companies and virtual currency businesses among the customers it does not accept, along with online casinos, online pharmacies, binary options, dating and adult businesses. Alpha Bank Cyprus places payment and e-money companies, trusts, offshore SPVs and complex structures under enhanced due diligence. Check the bank's policy before you incorporate, because the choice of bank can shape the structure.
Holding Structures Face More Questions
Many Cyprus companies hold shares in companies elsewhere or sit inside a wider group. Banks want the full chain up to the people at the top, and Bank of Cyprus asks for nominee trust deeds where nominees hold shares. A group chart with every percentage and country, plus one line on why each company exists, answers most of their questions before they are asked.
Companies From Outside the EEA Pay More
Bank of Cyprus charges a €300 application fee to companies incorporated outside the EEA and its list of equivalent countries, and €500 where enhanced due diligence applies. The UK is not on that list, so a UK parent company counts as non-EEA. Those companies pay €75 a month in maintenance instead of €50, and a surcharge of €5 to €12 on every SEPA payment and €30 to €40 on every international one.
Visits and Meetings
Bank of Cyprus asks international clients to visit one of its international business units in person, or to apply through a local professional intermediary. Eurobank sends new international customers a questionnaire and then books a virtual or physical meeting. For a director who lives in Dubai or Singapore, that is a trip or a scheduled call before anything moves.

Best Banks for Cyprus Companies Compared
The best banks for Cyprus companies are three large banks and one smaller local lender that publish tariffs for international clients. The table shows who each bank takes, who it turns away and what an international company pays each month to keep the account open.
Bank | Who it takes | Who it turns away | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|---|
Bank of Cyprus | Local and international companies, through its international business units | Shell companies, crypto, online casinos and several other sectors | €50 to €75 for active company accounts |
Eurobank Limited | Local and international companies, after a questionnaire and meeting | Files that fail its new relationship assessment | €150 a quarter per customer |
Alpha Bank Cyprus | Local and international companies, now including former AstroBank clients | Shell companies and unlicensed gambling or financial services | €60 a month per customer |
Ancoria Bank | Resident and non-resident business owners | Files with no evidence of activity in Cyprus | €25 a quarter for non-residents |
National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) | Local and international companies | Files outside its risk appetite | Relationship based |
The table shows the trade-off. The large banks are strong and well supervised, but every one of them has a separate, higher tariff for international clients and reviews each file by hand. Ancoria is cheaper on maintenance but smaller, and it still asks for real activity in Cyprus.
The Top Business Banks Cyprus Companies Use
Bank of Cyprus reported €29.1 billion in assets and €22.8 billion in customer deposits at 30 June 2026, and press estimates put its share of loans and deposits at about 40%. Its international business units handle companies owned from abroad, on their own tariff.
Eurobank Limited is the merged Hellenic Bank and Eurobank Cyprus, with 59 branches, the largest network on the island. International companies go through its International Business Centres, which have their own charges and a minimum €200 fee to assess a new relationship.
Alpha Bank Cyprus became the third largest bank after taking over AstroBank, with assets above €6.6 billion. It publishes a separate catalogue for international clients, with a €500 minimum opening fee where enhanced checks apply. Ancoria Bank is small, with three branches, and has the lowest maintenance fee for non-residents. National Bank of Greece (Cyprus), Société Générale Bank-Cyprus, cdbbank and Housing Finance Corporation complete the list of Cyprus-incorporated banks.
Fees on Every Payment
Even the best banks for Cyprus companies charge per payment, and the charge rises with the amount. Bank of Cyprus's international tariff charges companies €5 to €12 for a SEPA payment online and €30 to €80 at a branch. International payments cost 0.15% (minimum €5, maximum €250) plus a €17 to €25 processing fee. Eurobank's international centres charge €10 to €30 for euro SWIFT payments up to €50,000, and 0.20% (minimum €25) on payments in other currencies.
Currency Commissions on Top of the Rate
Every conversion carries a commission on top of the exchange rate. Bank of Cyprus charges 0.40% (minimum €5, maximum €400), Eurobank 0.30% (minimum €6, maximum €500), Alpha 0.3% for international clients and Ancoria 0.30%. On €500,000 converted a year, a 0.40% commission alone costs €2,000, before the spread built into the rate itself.
Fees for Low Activity and Dormant Accounts
A company that uses its account lightly still pays. Bank of Cyprus adds €20 a month when there are four or fewer transactions, unless the foreign currency balance averages over €20,000, and a dormant company account costs €100 to €125 a month. Alpha charges international clients €150 a quarter for eight or fewer transactions and €50 a month for each dormant account.
Costs to Leave
Closing costs money too. Bank of Cyprus charges €200 to close, and after it ends a relationship it can charge a "not accepted client" fee of €320 a month until the accounts are closed. Eurobank's international centres charge €100 to €500 to close all of a company's accounts, and Alpha charges €200 per account and €350 a month to a client it no longer accepts.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Cyprus Business Account
There is a better alternative to the Cyprus bank queue for companies run from abroad. Our banking partners are licensed e-money institutions built for international companies. They open a Cyprus business account in days, fully online, with no trip to Cyprus and no branch meeting.
One of our partners is licensed by the Central Bank of Cyprus itself and issues dedicated Cyprus IBANs, with a branch in Greece that also serves Greek companies. Others hold licences in the UK, Luxembourg, Malta and the DIFC, which adds sterling, dirham and dozens of other currencies to a multi-currency business account in the same setup. We prepare the file before any partner sees it, so the review happens once.
Client money at an e-money institution sits in safeguarding accounts at major banks, kept apart from the partner's own funds. That is a different protection from the Cyprus deposit scheme, and we explain it plainly before you sign.
Feature | Cyprus banks | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Time to open | Three to four weeks after a visit or meeting | About 2 to 10 business days |
Who they accept | Companies with real presence in Cyprus, others after enhanced checks | Cyprus companies owned and run from most countries |
Visit or meeting | Required at most banks | Not required, identity checked online |
Application fee | €200 to €500, up to €1,000 to expedite | Free to €500 |
Monthly cost | €25 a quarter to €75 a month | Free to €100 a month |
Minimum balance | None set, but low activity costs €20 to €150 | None |
Currencies | EUR, other currencies in separate accounts | EUR, GBP, USD, AED and dozens more |
IBAN | Cyprus IBAN | Cyprus IBAN at one partner, UK, Luxembourg or Malta at others |
Currency conversion | 0.30% to 0.40% commission plus the spread | One margin, shown before you confirm |
For a trading, holding or service company run from abroad, the partner route is faster and costs less to hold. A Cyprus bank still suits a company with a real office and staff on the island, a need for local lending, or cash to deposit.
The Best Online Bank Account for a Cyprus Company
The best online bank account for a Cyprus company is one you can open online, not only use online. Cyprus banks offer good online banking once you are in, through 1bank, Alpha 360 and myAncoria, but opening still means a visit or a scheduled meeting and paper documents. Our partners open and run the account online from the first step, with identity checks by passport and selfie.
Which Cyprus Companies Our Partners Accept
Our partners accept Cyprus companies with real activity: trading, services, software and fintech businesses, shipping, and holding companies with real investments, all with a clear source of funds. Some of them also take licensed gaming operators, licensed forex brokers and MiCA-licensed crypto firms, subject to their own checks. We confirm the fit before you open a Cyprus business account with them, so you never collect a refusal.

How to Judge a Cyprus Bank Before You Apply
The best bank account for a Cyprus company depends on what the company does, but a few checks apply to every bank. Look at deposit cover, the bank's strength, who supervises it and how it handles everyday euro payments before you spend time on an application.
What the Deposit Guarantee Scheme Covers
The Cyprus Deposit Guarantee Scheme covers up to €100,000 per depositor per bank, including interest, and companies are eligible. The company is covered separately from its shareholders. Deposits of banks, investment firms, insurers, investment funds and pension funds are excluded, and payouts are due within seven working days.
Checking a Bank's Strength
Ratings and capital tell you how strong a bank is. Moody's rates Bank of Cyprus deposits A3 with a positive outlook, and Fitch rates its long-term deposits A minus. Fitch upgraded Eurobank Limited to BBB in November 2025, and Eurobank reported a CET1 ratio of 34.0% in June 2025. Bank of Cyprus reported 20.9% at 30 June 2026, well above the regulatory minimum and strong even among the best countries for business banking.
Who Supervises the Bank
All of the best banks for Cyprus companies sit inside the ECB system. The ECB supervises Bank of Cyprus directly as a significant institution, and it supervises Eurobank Limited, Alpha Bank Cyprus and National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) directly through their groups. Smaller banks such as Ancoria and cdbbank are supervised by the Central Bank of Cyprus within the same system.
Online Banking Once You Are In
Once the account is open, all the best banks for Cyprus companies offer online and mobile banking, and online payments cost less than branch payments at every one of them, often by €20 or more. When founders look for the best online bank account for a Cyprus company, they usually mean one that also opens online, which is where our partners differ.
Instant Payments and Payee Checks
Since 9 October 2025, banks in the euro area must send instant euro payments and check the payee's name before a payment leaves. Instant payments cannot cost more than regular transfers, and Bank of Cyprus says it adds no charge. Every Cyprus bank launched the free payee check in October 2025, so compare banks on fees and service rather than on speed alone.
Documents Needed to Bank a Cyprus Company
The documents needed to bank a Cyprus company are much the same at all the best banks for Cyprus companies. They cover the company, the people behind it and what the business actually does. We collect them with you and write the parts that reviewers read most closely.
Company Records
Bank of Cyprus asks for the memorandum and articles, the certificate of incorporation, registrar certificates of directors, secretary and shareholders, and board minutes approving the account. A company formed abroad that is more than two years old also needs a certificate of good standing.
Papers for Each Director, Owner and Signatory
Every director, signatory, shareholder and beneficial owner provides a passport and a recent utility bill. Bank of Cyprus also asks for CVs and bank references for the beneficial owners, and nominee trust deeds where nominees hold shares. References from a bank outside the EU can take weeks, so ask for them first.
Evidence About the Business
Banks want an ownership chart, financial statements, contracts with the main counterparties and a business profile with expected turnover. The 2025 directive lists exactly what proves real activity: statements, active accounts, tax returns, a website, customer details, contracts and invoices. Ancoria also asks for a UBO register extract, your source of funds and evidence of presence in Cyprus.
Audited Accounts
Every Cyprus private company must have its financial statements audited, including dormant ones. Law firms report that small companies below €300,000 turnover and €500,000 in assets can use a review engagement instead for financial years from 6 February 2026. Banks use those accounts to check the company is real and trading, and an overdue audit is a common reason for delay.

- Ownership chart: Every layer shown, down to the people at the top.

What the Best Banks for Cyprus Companies Charge
The best banks for Cyprus companies look reasonable on the monthly fee and cost far more once application fees, payment fees, currency commissions and low-activity charges are added. The table sets typical ranges at Cyprus banks for international companies against our partners' plans.
Charge | Typical range at a Cyprus bank | With our partners |
|---|---|---|
Application or assessment fee | €200 to €500, more with enhanced checks | Free to €500 |
Faster opening | €200 to €1,000 at Alpha | Not needed, accounts open in days |
Maintenance fee | €25 a quarter to €75 a month | Free to €100 a month |
Low-activity fee | €20 a month to €150 a quarter | Plan fee only |
Minimum balance | None set, but low use triggers fees | None |
SEPA payment out | €4 to €12 online, €30 to €80 at a branch | From €2 per payment |
SEPA payment in | €3 to €30 by amount | Free to €5, or 0.20% at one partner |
International payment out | 0.15% plus €17 to €25, or €10 to €30 up to €50,000 | Around €25 to €30 plus a small percentage |
International payment in | €8 to €40 by amount | Free to €20 |
Extra currency accounts | Separate accounts, €100 each at one bank | Included in the plan |
Currency conversion | 0.30% to 0.40% plus the spread in the rate | One margin, shown before you confirm |
Periodic file review | €500 to €2,000 at international units | No separate review fee |
Account closure | €100 to €500 | Up to €200 |
After the bank ends the relationship | €320 to €350 a month until closed | No such charge |
For the best banks for Cyprus companies, the monthly fee is the advertised number and the smallest one. The money is in the application fee, the non-EEA surcharges, the currency commission and the review fees. A company converting €500,000 a year pays €1,500 to €2,000 in commission alone at a Cyprus bank, before the spread, and a review can add another €500 to €2,000.
Per-payment fees on international transfers are close between the two routes, so the saving is in holding the account, converting money and avoiding the surcharges. A company with a real office and local customers paying in euros can find a Cyprus bank cheaper, especially on the domestic tariffs, and that is fair to say. All figures are planning ranges drawn from published tariffs, and we confirm your final price in writing before you apply.

How Long Cyprus Banks Take to Open Accounts
Cyprus law firms put it at three to four weeks in most cases for an international company, once the file is complete and the visit or meeting has happened, and longer when the ownership runs through several countries. For domestic companies, Bank of Cyprus says an officer calls within three working days of an online application. With our partners the account opens in days.
Stage | Cyprus bank | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Forming the company | About a week with the registrar | About a week, handled by us |
Preparing the file | 1 to 2 weeks for certified copies and references | A few days, built with us |
Visit, meeting and review | 2 to 4 weeks | A few days, fully online |
Account open and ready | 3 to 6 weeks in total | About 2 to 10 business days after the file is complete |
Where the Time Goes
At the best banks for Cyprus companies, most delays come from the visit or meeting, missing bank references, an ownership chart that stops short of the people at the top, and an audit that is not finished. Enhanced checks on non-EEA structures add another round of questions, and documents issued outside the EU often need an apostille, which adds days.
How to Shorten the Wait
Collect certified documents and references at the start, write down your counterparties and source of funds, and answer questions the same day. Alpha sells a three-working-day processing option for €200 on corporate files and a €1,000 expedite fee for international clients, but a complete file does more than either.

What Happens After Your Cyprus Account Opens
After the account opens, fund it, add your users and share the IBAN with customers and suppliers. If a plan has any first-deposit or activity condition, we confirm it in writing before you sign, so nothing comes as a surprise.
Regular File Reviews
Banks review your file every year or two and ask for fresh documents, especially from international companies. Bank of Cyprus charges international companies €500 to €2,000 for a review, and Eurobank's international centres a minimum of €500. Keep audited accounts, UBO filings and identity documents current so a review does not freeze payments.
UBO Register Updates
Changes to beneficial owners must be filed within 45 days, and new companies must register them within 90 days of incorporation. The 2026 annual confirmation runs from 1 October to 31 December 2026. Late filing costs €100 plus €50 a day, up to €5,000, and banks check the register at every review.
Tax Changes From 2026
Cyprus corporate tax rose from 12.5% to 15% on 1 January 2026. Deemed dividend distribution is abolished for profits from 2026, and a company incorporated in Cyprus is now tax resident by default unless a tax treaty says otherwise. Tax losses can be carried forward for seven years instead of five. Banks ask for tax residency details, so keep them consistent across the whole file.
Why the Company Comes Before the Account
A bank can only verify a Cyprus company once it exists on the register, with a certificate of incorporation, registered officers and an entry in the UBO register. The registrar fee to incorporate is €165. If you do not have the company yet, we form it with our licensed Cyprus partners and prepare the bank file while the company is formed.

Common Mistakes When Choosing a Cyprus Bank
Most problems with Cyprus banking come from picking the bank on its name or its monthly fee alone. These are the mistakes we see most often, and what to do instead.
Picking a Bank by Its Name
Founders often apply to the biggest bank because it is the one they have heard of. A large bank is not automatically the best bank for a Cyprus company owned from abroad. Bank of Cyprus treats a company with a UK parent as non-EEA, which means a €300 application fee, €75 a month and a surcharge on every payment. Read the acceptance policy and the international tariff first, then decide where to apply.
Comparing Only the Monthly Fee
A €25 or €50 monthly fee looks cheap until the other charges arrive. Application fees, SWIFT fees with processing charges, a 0.30% to 0.40% currency commission and a €500 to €2,000 review decide the real cost. Add them up for your expected volumes over twelve months. For a company converting €500,000 a year, the commission alone can be forty times the monthly fee.
Ignoring the Presence Question
A company with no office, staff or customers in Cyprus has to explain why it is there, and a vague answer reads as a shell. Under the 2025 directive a remote business can qualify, but only with evidence: contracts, invoices, a live website and tax returns. Write the explanation and collect the proof before the bank asks, not after the first round of questions.
Letting the Audit Slip
Every Cyprus company is audited or, if small enough, reviewed. A late audit delays the opening, stalls every review after it and can freeze outgoing payments while the bank waits. Book the auditor at incorporation, not in month eleven, and send the signed accounts to the bank as soon as they are approved.
Applying to Several Banks at Once
Sending the same file to three banks feels efficient. In practice, parallel applications lead to parallel refusals, and every refusal becomes a question at the next bank. With only eight banks left, you cannot afford to burn them. Apply once, to a provider that fits your structure and sector, with a complete file.
Advice on the Best Banks for Cyprus Companies
Cyprus banking is very manageable when the bank and the file are chosen together. Talk to us before you apply anywhere.
- Fit checked first: We confirm which route suits your company and sector.
- Non-EEA ownership: Structures explained the way Cyprus reviewers need them.
- Refused before: We review the old file and fix the gaps.
- Honest advice: We tell you when a Cyprus bank is the better fit.
- Cyprus IBAN available: A partner licensed by the Central Bank of Cyprus.
Bottom Line
The best banks for Cyprus companies are strong, EU-supervised and backed by the deposit scheme, but they are slow and costly for companies run from abroad. Application fees, visits, non-EEA surcharges, shell company rules and sector refusals keep many international companies waiting three to four weeks, or refused outright.
For most Cyprus companies that trade across borders, the faster route is a licensed partner that opens online, including one licensed in Cyprus with a local IBAN. With a complete file, a multi-currency account opens in days, and you can still add a Cyprus bank later if the company builds a local presence. Planning how to open a business bank account in Cyprus before you incorporate saves weeks.
