Sharjah free zone business setup gives you a UAE company with 100% foreign ownership at some of the lowest published prices in the country. SHAMS and Sharjah Publishing City both list licenses from AED 5,750 a year. Qualifying income can be taxed at 0%, and you can choose from six free zones.
The hard part is that each zone sets its own packages, visa quotas and extra fees, such as the establishment card and the e-channel registration. Only Hamriyah and SAIF Zone are Designated Zones for goods, and the 0% rate depends on conditions that no package price mentions.
This is where we come in. We set up the company ourselves, so the whole process runs through one team: the zone and activity choice, your KYC pack, the license application, the visas and the corporate tax registration. Our service starts from €1,899, with the zone's government fees on top, and your company is ready in about a week from a complete file.

Why Set Up a Company in a Sharjah Free Zone
A Sharjah free zone company gives you full foreign ownership, low published license prices and the UAE's tax rules for free zones. Sharjah has six free zones, an international airport and three seaports. Most founders choose it to keep costs down while running a real UAE company with visas and a bank account.
Sharjah Free Zone Licenses From AED 5,750
Sharjah publishes some of the lowest license prices in the UAE. The SHAMS media package costs AED 5,750 for one year, and its trader package for general trading and e-commerce costs AED 6,500. Sharjah Publishing City lists a one-year license with no visas from AED 5,750 and lets you pay in up to 12 instalments. Longer terms cost less per year: a three-year SHAMS media license is AED 13,800. Our guide to free zone company formation in the UAE shows how these prices fit the national picture.
100% Foreign Ownership With No Local Partner
Every Sharjah free zone company can be fully foreign owned. SHAMS states that you keep 100% ownership with no local partner, and Sharjah Publishing City allows up to 100 shareholders under one license with no paid-up share capital. A company can also be the shareholder, which makes a Sharjah free zone company a simple base for a holding company structure.
Set Up a Company in a Sharjah Free Zone
A Sharjah free zone company is quick to set up and cheap to run. These are the main reasons founders choose it.
- 100% foreign ownership: No local partner or sponsor in any Sharjah free zone.
- Licenses from AED 5,750: The published entry price at SHAMS and Sharjah Publishing City.
- 0% on qualifying income: For a Qualifying Free Zone Person, with 9% above AED 375,000 otherwise.
- No personal income tax: Salaries and dividends paid to you are not taxed in the UAE.
- Two Designated Zones: Hamriyah and SAIF Zone suit imports, re-exports and distribution.
- Formed in about a week: We set up your company from €1,899 plus zone fees, with one team and one file.
0% Tax on Qualifying Free Zone Income
The UAE charges corporate tax at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above that. A Sharjah free zone company that meets the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions pays 0% on its qualifying income, whatever the amount. That keeps the UAE among the countries with the lowest corporate tax rates, but the 0% rate is conditional, so we check your activity before you choose a zone.
Designated Zones for Goods and Trade
Two Sharjah zones, Hamriyah Free Zone and SAIF Zone, are Designated Zones under Cabinet Decision No. 59 of 2017. Goods inside them can be treated as outside the UAE for VAT, and distribution from them can count as a qualifying activity for the 0% rate. Invest in Sharjah, the emirate's investment office, states that there are no import, export or re-export duties inside its free zones.
Flexible Visas and Zero-Visa Licenses
You only pay for the visas you need. SHAMS sells its standard license by visa quota, from zero to six visas, and says one license can hold up to 50 visas. Sharjah Publishing City lets you buy visas when you need them, with no limit and no amendment fee. A zero-visa license suits a founder who runs the company from abroad.
Types of Sharjah Free Zones
Sharjah has six free zones, and each one serves a different kind of business. SHAMS and Sharjah Publishing City suit media, e-commerce, trading and services at a low price. SAIF Zone and Hamriyah suit goods and industry. SRTI Park serves technology and research, and Sharjah Healthcare City serves healthcare.
SHAMS (Sharjah Media City)
SHAMS opened in February 2017 and publishes a full price list for every package. The media package costs AED 5,750 a year for any three media activities, and the trader package costs AED 6,500 for general trading and e-commerce. The standard package mixes any three activities, from AED 8,050 with no visas to AED 17,343 with a quota of six. A lease agreement is included, so you do not need to rent an office. SHAMS suits media companies, e-commerce sellers, consultants and remote teams. It is not a Designated Zone. Our guide to SHAMS free zone company setup covers every package.
Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone
Invest in Sharjah describes Sharjah Publishing City, or SPC, as the world's first free zone built only for publishing and printing. It licenses publishing, e-commerce, general trading and services. A one-year license with no visas starts from AED 5,750, with up to five activity groups at no extra cost and up to 100 shareholders. Visas are unlimited and bought when you need them. It is not a Designated Zone.
SAIF Zone (Sharjah Airport International Free Zone)
SAIF Zone sits next to Sharjah International Airport with customs on site, and hosts more than 8,000 companies from 160 countries, according to Invest in Sharjah. It issues trade, service and industrial licenses and states that it delivers licenses within one hour. Visas follow the facility: 3 with a SAIF Office, 5 with an Executive Office and 8 with a SAIF Suite. Warehouses run from 125 to 600 square metres. Prices are not published, so we quote them with your setup. Our guide to SAIF Zone company setup covers it in full.
Hamriyah Free Zone
Hamriyah Free Zone is the UAE's second largest industrial free zone, with more than 6,500 businesses from 163 countries, according to Invest in Sharjah. It offers e-offices, executive offices, warehouses and industrial land, issues service, commercial and industrial licenses, and registers companies in less than an hour. It suits heavy industry, oil and gas, steel, food and marine businesses. Prices are not published on its site at the time of writing, so we quote them with your setup. See our guide to Hamriyah Free Zone company setup.
SRTI Park for Technology and Research
The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park opened in 2016. It issues commercial, service, industrial and consultancy licenses across more than 1,500 activities, with a focus on water, logistics, renewable energy, digital technology and smart manufacturing. With documents ready, a company can be licensed and in its office in as little as five working days. It also offers a dual license for the free zone and the mainland.
Sharjah Healthcare City
Sharjah Healthcare City is the free zone for hospitals, clinics and other healthcare businesses. It leases land, offices and clinical space near Sharjah International Airport. Healthcare setups depend on the site and the approvals, so they are priced on scope.
Sharjah Free Zone Company Forms
Most Sharjah free zone companies are limited liability companies. SAIF Zone uses FZE for one shareholder and FZC for more than one, while SHAMS issues LLC licenses. A UAE or foreign company can also open a branch. The form affects who can own the company, not how it is taxed.
For most service, media and e-commerce companies, SHAMS or SPC has the lowest published cost. If you import, store or distribute goods, start with SAIF Zone or Hamriyah, because Designated Zone status affects your tax.

Company Formation in Sharjah Free Zone for Non-Residents
Company formation in Sharjah free zone areas is open to founders from almost any country. You do not need to live in the UAE to own the company, and most of the setup runs online. You only need to travel if you want a residence visa, and even then one short trip is usually enough.
No Residency Rule for Owners
Shareholders of a Sharjah free zone company can live anywhere. SHAMS states that you keep 100% ownership with no local partner, and a zero-visa license lets you own and run the company without moving to the UAE. This makes a free zone company a common choice for founders who set up a company as a non-resident and sell to clients outside the UAE.
Setting Up Without Travel
You do not need to visit Sharjah to form the company. Individual owners usually send a passport copy and a photo, and we file the application for you. The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so company documents issued abroad go through embassy legalisation and attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This takes about 2 to 4 weeks. We tell you exactly which documents need it before you start, so the timeline does not slip.
When You Need to Visit the UAE
You need to be in the UAE for a residence visa. After the entry permit, you complete a blood test and X-ray at a medical centre and give your Emirates ID biometrics at an ICP centre. SPC says a free zone residence visa can be ready in 3 to 5 working days, and it is usually valid for 2 years. Some UAE banks also ask to meet a signatory in a branch. Plan one short trip, and we set up the appointments in the right order.
Your Home Country's Tax Rules
A UAE company can still be taxed in your home country. Many countries tax a company where its board really makes decisions, and some tax their residents on the profits of foreign companies they control. Check your home rules before you set up, and read our guide to controlled foreign corporation rules. If you plan to move to the UAE yourself, our guide to UAE tax residency explains the tests.

Business Setup in Sharjah Freezone From Abroad
You can own a Sharjah free zone company from anywhere. We handle every step remotely.
- No residency rule: Owners can live in any country.
- Correct legalisation: We plan the embassy and MOFA attestation before you start.
- Zero-visa licenses: Run the company without moving, then add visas when you need them.
- One short trip for a visa: Medical test and Emirates ID biometrics set up in the right order.
- Tax residence planned: We check where the company is managed before you file.
- Account opened remotely: Our partners open the business account with no branch visit.
Sharjah Free Zone License Types
A Sharjah free zone license is issued for the activities you choose, and the license type sets what the company can do. The main types are e-commerce, trading, service and consultancy, media and publishing, and industrial. Pick the activities that fit how you will earn money, because banks and the tax rules both read the license.
Sharjah Free Zone E-Commerce License
A Sharjah free zone e-commerce license lets you sell goods or services online. SHAMS covers e-commerce in its AED 6,500 trader package, SPC lists e-commerce among its license types, and SAIF Zone includes e-commerce in its service license. Selling to consumers needs care on tax. Transactions with natural persons are an Excluded Activity for the 0% regime. If those sales pass 5% of revenue or AED 5 million, whichever is lower, the company pays the normal rates: 0% up to AED 375,000 and 9% above. Our guide to the UAE e-commerce license and our page on ecommerce payment gateways cover the next steps.
Sharjah Free Zone Trade License
A Sharjah free zone trade license covers buying, selling, importing and storing goods. At SAIF Zone it covers import, export, distribution and warehousing of up to 3 similar product lines. SHAMS sells a general trading and e-commerce package for AED 6,500, and Hamriyah issues commercial licenses for traders that need warehouses or land. If you hold stock and distribute it, the zone you choose affects your tax. Our guide to the UAE trade license explains the license itself.
Service, Media and Publishing Licenses
A service license covers consultancy and other professional services, and SHAMS lets you mix any three activities in its standard package. Media is what SHAMS was built for: its AED 5,750 media package covers any three media activities, and SPC licenses publishing and printing companies. Freelancers can use the SHAMS freelancer package, from AED 7,745 a year with no visa. A service company with clients abroad often needs no visa at first.
Industrial and Healthcare Licenses
An industrial license covers manufacturing, processing, assembly and packaging. SAIF Zone issues it after clearance from its Health and Environment Department, and Hamriyah offers industrial land and warehouses for heavy industry. Sharjah Healthcare City licenses hospitals, clinics and healthcare businesses. These setups depend on the site and the approvals, so they are priced on scope.

Business Setup in Sharjah Free Zone Step by Step
Business setup in Sharjah free zone areas follows the same order in every zone: choose the zone and activity, reserve the name, send the documents, get the license, then the establishment card, visas and tax registration. We run every step with you and keep the file in one place.
Before You Start
Decide three things first: what you will sell, who your customers are and how many visas you need. A company that sells services abroad can start at SHAMS or SPC with no visa. A company that imports and distributes goods should look at SAIF Zone or Hamriyah first. If most of your customers are inside the UAE, check whether a free zone fits at all.
We Choose the Zone and the Activity With You
We pick a zone with you that licenses your activity and gives you the visa quota you need. We also check the activity against the qualifying activities list, so you know before filing whether your income can get 0% tax. Some activities need outside approval, and we flag them at this stage.
We Reserve the Trade Name
We check your trade name against the zone's naming rules and the names already registered, then reserve it. A clean name check means the application goes in once, with no second round.
We Prepare the Documents and Your KYC Pack
We tell each owner exactly what to send and build the KYC pack once. For a corporate shareholder, we plan the legalisation and attestation route at the start, because it is the slowest step. The same pack is used later for the bank, so you do not send your documents twice.
We File the License Application
We submit the application and the company documents to the zone, answer its questions and pay the government fees for you at the zone's own rates. Once approved, the zone issues the license and the lease agreement.
We Arrange the Establishment Card and Visas
The establishment card, which SHAMS lists as the immigration card, lets the company sponsor visas. Then come the e-channel registration with the immigration system, the visa allocation and each residence visa. We run these in order and set up the medical test and Emirates ID appointment for each visa holder.
We Register the Company for Corporate Tax
Every Sharjah free zone company must register for corporate tax with the Federal Tax Authority within 3 months of incorporation. A late registration costs AED 10,000. We file the registration and then prepare the bank file from the same KYC pack.
Full-Service Sharjah Free Zone Company Registration
Our service covers the whole Sharjah free zone company registration, so you never chase the zone yourself.
- Zone and activity checked: Chosen for your activity, goods and visa plans before filing.
- Trade name cleared: Checked against the zone's naming rules the first time.
- KYC pack prepared: We tell you what each owner sends and build the file.
- License application filed: We submit, answer the zone's questions and collect the license.
- Visas processed: Establishment card, e-channel, entry permit, medical and Emirates ID.
- Tax registration done: Corporate tax registration inside the 3-month deadline.
- One point of contact: From the first question to the open account.
Documents Needed for Sharjah Free Zone Company Registration
Sharjah free zone company registration needs a short document set for each owner and a longer one for a company that owns shares. Corporate documents from abroad need legalisation, so they take the longest. We send you one checklist and check every page before filing.
For Each Shareholder and Manager
Each person behind the company sends:
- Passport: A clear copy of a valid passport.
- Photo: A recent passport-size photo.
- UAE visa copy: Only if you already live in the UAE.
- No objection letter: From your sponsor or employer, if you hold a UAE employment visa and the zone asks for one.
- Proof of address: A recent utility bill or bank statement, which zones and banks often ask for.
- Business plan and source of funds: What the company will do and where its money comes from, for the KYC pack and the bank.
For a Corporate Shareholder
If a company will own the shares, the zone needs its certificate of incorporation, a board resolution that approves the new company and a power of attorney for the person who signs. These documents must be attested by the UAE embassy in the country that issued them and again by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Plan about 2 to 4 weeks for this. We start it on day one, so it does not hold up the license.
For a Residence Visa
Each visa holder needs an entry permit, or a change of status if they are already in the UAE, then a medical test and Emirates ID biometrics. Keep your passport and photo ready, along with the documents needed to open a business bank account if you want to start the bank side on the same trip.

Sharjah Free Zone Company Setup Cost in 2026
Sharjah free zone company setup cost has two parts: our fee and the zone's government fees. Our service starts from €1,899 for a standard company. On published figures, the zone's license starts from AED 5,750 a year with no visas, and a license with one residence visa comes to about AED 13,200 to AED 19,800 in the first year.
Our price covers the work: advice on the zone, activity and structure, your KYC pack, the company documents, the license application, the establishment card and e-channel applications, the visa paperwork, the corporate tax registration and the bank file. The zone's own government fees are paid on top at its own rates, and we quote them with your setup. Trusts, foundations, funds, regulated and high-risk structures are quoted separately.
Cost item | When it is paid | Typical amount | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
Company incorporation with Binderr, all of the above included | Once, before filing | From €1,899 | Advice, KYC pack, documents, filings, tax registration, bank file |
Free zone license package | Every year | From AED 5,750 at SHAMS or SPC, quoted with your setup elsewhere | License, lease agreement and activities |
Establishment card | With the first visa, then on renewal | AED 1,575 for 3 years at SHAMS, AED 640 at SPC | Lets the company sponsor visas |
E-channel registration | Before the first visa, then on renewal | AED 2,735 at SHAMS, AED 2,280 at SPC | Access to the immigration system |
Residence visa | Every 2 years, per person | AED 3,360 plus AED 371 Emirates ID at SHAMS, AED 2,530 at SPC | Visa and Emirates ID, medical test extra |
Accounting, and an audit if you claim 0% | Every year | Quoted with your setup | Books, corporate tax return, audited accounts |
Business account with our partners | Every month | About €30 to €100 on a published plan | Multi-currency account and payments |
Realistic first-year total | First 12 months | From €1,899 plus AED 5,750 to about AED 19,800 in zone fees | Zero-visa to one-visa company, before accounting |
Visas can more than double the zone fees in the first year. A zero-visa media or e-commerce company can run on the license fee, our fee and a partner account. Our page on company formation costs compares these totals with other countries.
Sharjah Free Zone Visa Cost
The Sharjah free zone visa cost is lowest at SPC on published fees. SPC lists a visa allocation of AED 1,600, an establishment card of AED 640, e-channel registration of AED 2,280, an investor visa with Emirates ID of AED 2,530 and a medical test of AED 365. That adds about AED 7,400 to a zero-visa license, for a first year of about AED 13,200, plus AED 700 for a change of status if you are already in the UAE.
SHAMS lists a visa allocation of AED 1,600, the immigration card at AED 1,575 for 3 years, e-channel registration at AED 2,735, a 2-year visa at AED 3,360 and the Emirates ID at AED 371, with the medical test priced by the medical centre. A standard SHAMS license with one visa comes to about AED 19,800 in the first year. The card and the e-channel are paid per company, so each extra visa costs less than the first.
First-Year Cost by Company Profile
Company profile | Realistic first year | What drives the cost |
|---|---|---|
Non-resident owner with no visa | From €1,899 plus AED 5,750 to AED 8,050 | Zone and package, partner account plan |
Founder with one residence visa | From €1,899 plus about AED 13,200 to AED 19,800 | Zone, visa fees, medical test |
Trading company in SAIF Zone or Hamriyah | From €1,899, zone fees quoted with your setup | Office or warehouse size, visas, audit |
Company claiming 0% as a Qualifying Free Zone Person | Add the yearly audit, quoted with your setup | Audit under Ministerial Decision No. 84 of 2025 |
Regulated, healthcare or industrial activity | Quoted separately | Approvals, site and license scope |
Sharjah's low prices help most in the zero-visa profile. Visas, warehouses and the audit move the total, and accounting is extra in every profile. We price all of it with you before anything is filed.

How Long Sharjah Free Zone Company Formation Takes
Sharjah free zone company formation takes about a week with us from a complete file. The zones themselves are fast: SAIF Zone and Hamriyah issue licenses or register companies within an hour. What sets the pace is the paperwork before filing, the visas after it and, for owners abroad, the legalisation of corporate documents.
Sharjah Free Zone Company Formation Timeline
Plan for four stages. The KYC pack and documents come first and usually take a few days when everything is in order. The license application follows, and the zone issues the license quickly once it approves the file. The establishment card, e-channel and visas come next, and SPC says a residence visa can be ready in 3 to 5 working days. Corporate tax registration and the bank account run alongside.
With a complete file, the license is usually ready in about one week. Add one short trip for the visa medical and biometrics if you want residence in the UAE.
What Slows It Down
Corporate shareholders slow things most, because embassy legalisation and Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation take about 2 to 4 weeks. Activities that need outside approval, an unclear source of funds and several layers of ownership also add time. We start the slow items on day one, so they run while the rest of the file is built.

Tax and Compliance for a Sharjah Free Zone Company
A Sharjah free zone company pays UAE corporate tax at 0% on qualifying income if it meets the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions, and at the normal rates otherwise: 0% up to AED 375,000 and 9% above. It must register for corporate tax, file a return each year and, when it claims 0%, have its accounts audited.
Corporate Tax at 0% and 9%
Cabinet Decision No. 116 of 2022 sets the 0% band at taxable income up to AED 375,000, with 9% on the rest. A free zone company that does not qualify for the special regime pays these normal rates. Our guide to free zone corporate tax in the UAE explains the regime in full.
Qualifying Free Zone Person Conditions
To pay 0% on qualifying income, the company must meet every condition in Article 18 of Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 and the decisions under it. It must be registered in a free zone and keep real substance there, with enough assets, staff and spending for its core activity. It must earn qualifying income, not elect into the normal rules, follow the arm's length principle and keep transfer pricing records. Its non-qualifying revenue must stay under 5% of total revenue or AED 5 million, whichever is lower. A company that fails a condition loses the regime from the start of that tax period and for the next 4 tax periods.
Qualifying Activities Under Ministerial Decision 229 of 2025
The Ministry of Finance published Ministerial Decision No. 229 of 2025 on 28 August 2025. It replaces Ministerial Decision No. 265 of 2023 and applies from 1 June 2023. Qualifying activities include manufacturing, processing, trading of qualifying commodities, holding shares, logistics, reinsurance, fund and wealth management, headquarter and treasury services, and distribution in or from a Designated Zone. Transactions with natural persons are an Excluded Activity, with a few exceptions such as fund and wealth management. That is why income from consumer sales usually counts as non-qualifying revenue.
Designated Zones in Sharjah
Hamriyah Free Zone and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, which is SAIF Zone, are the two Designated Zones in Sharjah under Cabinet Decision No. 59 of 2017. SHAMS, SPC, SRTI Park and Sharjah Healthcare City are not. Distribution counts as a qualifying activity only when it is done in or from a Designated Zone, the goods enter the UAE through that zone, and the buyer resells or processes them or is a public benefit entity. Our page on Designated Zones in the UAE explains the VAT side.
Audited Accounts Under Ministerial Decision 84 of 2025
Ministerial Decision No. 84 of 2025 requires audited financial statements from every company that claims Qualifying Free Zone Person status, at any revenue, and from any company with revenue above AED 50 million. It applies to tax periods starting on or after 1 January 2025. If you want 0%, budget for the audit from the first year. We quote the accounting and the audit with your setup, so the cost is clear from the start.
Corporate Tax Registration and Returns
Companies formed on or after 1 March 2024 must register for corporate tax within 3 months of incorporation, under Federal Tax Authority Decision No. 3 of 2024. Late registration brings an AED 10,000 penalty. The corporate tax return and any tax due are filed within 9 months of the end of each tax period. We handle the registration as part of the setup.
VAT and Economic Substance
VAT is 5%. Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000 a year and voluntary from AED 187,500. The Economic Substance Regulations were repealed for periods from 2023 by Cabinet Decision No. 98 of 2024, so there is no separate substance report. The 0% regime still needs real substance in the zone.

Business Banking for Sharjah Free Zone Companies
A Sharjah free zone company can open a UAE bank account, but local banks review new companies carefully and often take 2 to 8 weeks. Our banking partners open multi-currency business accounts in days, remotely. The best plan is to prepare one strong file and use it for both.
UAE Banks for Free Zone Companies
Local banks are a good long-term home once the company trades. Sharjah Islamic Bank asks for a valid trade license and a monthly minimum balance of AED 15,000 on its business current account. Emirates NBD's business banking FAQ asks for a valid license, Emirates ID and passport copies for shareholders, and at least one UAE resident signatory. Mashreq NeoBiz charges AED 99 or AED 199 a month with no minimum balance and opens in 1 day, and Wio Business says accounts are up and running in 3 working days. Both digital accounts need a UAE trade license and an Emirates ID, so they suit founders who live in the UAE.
Branch banks that take free zone companies review files in 2 to 8 weeks and usually want a branch visit. The most common reason for a decline is no economic link to the UAE. A file with contracts, invoices and a clear business plan gets through, so we build that evidence before you apply. Our guide to opening a free zone company bank account in the UAE covers the bank side, and why banks reject business account applications lists the fixes.
Faster Accounts Through Our Banking Partners
We work with regulated payment partners that open multi-currency business accounts in days, fully remotely, with no minimum balance. They are payment institutions and EMIs, not banks, which is why they move faster. Plans cost about €30 to €100 a month on a published plan. We prepare the file from the same KYC pack as your company and make the introduction, so your Sharjah free zone company can invoice and get paid from the first week.
Factor | UAE banks | Our banking partners |
|---|---|---|
Time to open | 1 day digital, 2 to 8 weeks at a branch | A few days |
UAE residency | Emirates ID or a resident signatory often needed | Not needed |
Branch visit | Usually needed at branch banks | No, fully remote |
Minimum balance | AED 15,000 a month at Sharjah Islamic Bank | None |
Most founders use both. Open the partner account first so the company can trade, then add a UAE bank once you have a few months of invoices. We keep the same file for both, so the second application is faster. When cash starts to build up, our guide on what cash management is shows how to put it to work.

Sharjah Free Zones vs Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman
Sharjah free zones compete with Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman on price and speed, and all four follow the same federal tax rules. Of the four, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah publish the lowest entry prices. Dubai has the widest choice of zones at a higher cost. Ajman is close to Sharjah but does not publish its prices.

Tax does not separate these emirates. The 0% and 9% rules are federal, and each emirate has Designated Zones for goods, such as Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, RAK Free Trade Zone and Ajman Free Zone. The real differences are the published price, the brand of the zone and the facilities you need. With us the setup price is the same in every emirate, from €1,899, and the company is formed in about a week.
Sharjah Free Zones vs Dubai
Dubai free zones cost more. Meydan Free Zone starts from AED 12,500 against AED 5,750 at SHAMS, but Dubai zones carry well-known names that some clients and banks prefer. Choose Sharjah to keep costs low and Dubai when the zone's brand matters to your customers. Our guide to business setup in Dubai free zones covers the options.
Sharjah Free Zones vs Ras Al Khaimah
RAKEZ sells an Instant License Basic for AED 6,000 with one shareholder and one activity, and a Lite package for AED 12,000. That is close to Sharjah on price. Sharjah offers more media and publishing options, while Ras Al Khaimah suits founders who want one instant license. See our guide to RAKEZ company formation.
Sharjah Free Zones vs Ajman
Ajman Free Zone is a Designated Zone and issues commercial, industrial and freelancer licenses, but it does not publish package prices on its site, so its costs are quoted with your setup. Sharjah gives you more published prices to plan with and two Designated Zones to choose from. Our guide to Ajman Free Zone company setup explains the Ajman route.

Who a Sharjah Free Zone Company Is Wrong For
A Sharjah free zone company is not the right answer for every business. It works best for companies that sell services or goods outside the UAE, or that trade goods through a Designated Zone. It is a weaker fit in the four cases below.
If most of your customers are on the UAE mainland, a free zone company usually needs a distributor or a mainland license to sell to them directly. A mainland company in the UAE or a Sharjah mainland license is often simpler, and the dual license at SRTI Park is one middle route. Our guide to business setup in Sharjah covers the mainland side.
If you plan to sell mostly to consumers, a free zone will not give you 0% on that income, because consumer income is non-qualifying. You pay the normal rates of 0% up to AED 375,000 and 9% above, and we plan the setup around them.
If you only want to hold assets with no visas, no staff and no office, an offshore company in the UAE may suit you better. And regulated financial businesses, such as banks and insurers, need a regulator's license that these zones do not issue, so we quote them separately.
Common Mistakes When Setting Up a Sharjah Free Zone Company
Most problems with a Sharjah free zone company come from early decisions, not from the zones. The license itself is quick to get. The mistakes below cost money later, and each one is easy to avoid when it is planned before filing.
Choosing the Cheapest Zone for a Goods Business
Founders who distribute goods often pick SHAMS or SPC because the license is the cheapest in Sharjah. Neither is a Designated Zone, so distribution from them is not a qualifying activity. If that income pushes the company past the de minimis limit, it pays the normal rates instead of 0%. On AED 1 million of taxable profit, 9% above AED 375,000 is AED 56,250 a year. The license saving is a few thousand dirhams, while the tax cost repeats every year. If you import and distribute goods, compare SAIF Zone and Hamriyah first and price the license second.
Assuming Every Free Zone Company Pays 0%
Many founders read "0% tax" on a package page and stop there. The 0% rate needs Qualifying Free Zone Person status, real substance in the zone, audited accounts and non-qualifying revenue under 5% of total revenue or AED 5 million, whichever is lower. A consumer e-commerce shop fails the last test quickly. Losing the status applies for that tax period and the next 4. Check your income mix before you file, and plan for the normal rates if it does not fit.
Missing the Corporate Tax Registration Deadline
Every company formed since 1 March 2024 must register for corporate tax within 3 months of incorporation, even with no revenue and even when it expects to pay 0%. A late registration costs AED 10,000, which is more than the entry license at SHAMS or SPC. This happens most with zero-visa companies run from abroad, where nobody watches the UAE calendar. We register the company as part of the setup, so the deadline is met from day one.
Budgeting the License and Forgetting the Visa Costs
The headline license price is only part of the bill once you need a visa. At SHAMS, the immigration card is AED 1,575, e-channel registration is AED 2,735 and each 2-year visa is AED 3,360 plus AED 371 for the Emirates ID. A standard SHAMS license with one visa comes to about AED 19,800 in the first year once these are added, more than three times the zero-visa media package. Decide the visa count first and price the whole package before you pay, which we do with you.
Applying to Several Banks at Once
When a bank declines, founders often send the same file to three more banks at once. Each review takes 2 to 8 weeks, and the most common reason for a decline is no economic link to the UAE, which the next bank will see too. Fix the file first by adding contracts, invoices and a clear business plan. Open a partner account so the company can trade, then apply to one bank with the stronger file.
Plan Your Sharjah Free Zone Company Setup
Some setups need planning before you pick a zone. Send us your details and we come back with a clear plan.
- Goods and customs: Designated Zone or not, planned around how your goods move.
- 0% tax status: Your activity checked against the qualifying list first.
- Consumer sales: E-commerce and retail income planned around the de minimis limit.
- Mainland customers: The right route when your buyers are in the UAE.
- Several owners: Share structure and corporate shareholders set up properly.
- Honest advice: We tell you when a zero-visa license is all you need.
Bottom Line
Sharjah free zone business setup is one of the lowest-cost ways to own a UAE company. SHAMS and SPC publish licenses from AED 5,750 a year, you keep 100% ownership, and you can start with no visa and add visas later. SAIF Zone and Hamriyah are the Designated Zones for goods and industry, and SRTI Park and Sharjah Healthcare City serve technology and healthcare.
The trade-offs are the visa costs, the conditions behind the 0% rate, the audit for companies that claim it and the time UAE banks take. Plan those first and the rest is simple. We set up your Sharjah free zone company from €1,899, plus the zone's fees, in about a week: the zone choice, the license, the visas, the tax registration and the bank file, through one team.
