With a business savings account, Guernsey companies earn interest on cash they do not need for daily payments. Island banks offer instant access, notice and fixed-term products in sterling, dollars and euros. Published rates in September 2026 run from 3.00% on instant access to 4.25% on fixed bonds, and Guernsey does not withhold tax on the interest.
Getting one is harder than the rates suggest. Most banks offer savings only to companies that already hold a current account with them. Minimums start at £10,000 and reach £100,000, some banks want an owner who lives on the islands, and reviews take weeks. Refusals are common for owners abroad.
This part is easy with us. Binderr works with licensed banking partners who open your company's multi-currency operating account in days, fully remotely, with no minimum balance and lower payment and FX costs. We build your KYC pack and handle the documents and the introduction, so the file is ready when reserves move to a bank savings product. One team, no email chains.
Our top-rated, licensed banking providers open operating accounts for Guernsey companies in days, so the business can trade while its savings plan takes shape.

Why a Business Savings Account in Guernsey Is Hard to Open for Non-Residents
For a business savings account, Guernsey banks set more conditions than for an ordinary current account, and owners who live abroad run into most of them. Savings are usually kept for existing customers, several banks want a link to the islands, and every bank checks where the money came from. Refusals are common, so know the reasons before you apply.
Existing Customers Come First
Most business savings accounts Guernsey banks offer are kept for companies that already bank there. Skipton International offers its business savings range to existing business customers, and other banks expect a current account in place before they open a notice account or a fixed deposit. So a business savings account Guernsey banks open is usually the second product in a relationship, not the first.
Residency and Ownership Rules
NatWest International asks that an owner or director aged 18 or over lives in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar. It also expects a single layer of ownership, no nominee shareholders and cash takings of no more than 20% of turnover. Butterfield's Local Business Saver is for Guernsey and Jersey companies, charities and non-profits that trade locally. For a company run entirely from abroad, these rules close most high street business savings accounts. Guernsey private banks remain, usually through an introducer and with a large relationship. Our guide to Guernsey bank accounts for non-resident companies covers them in detail.
Open a Business Bank Account in Guernsey
Opening a business bank account in Guernsey comes before any savings product, and with the right partner it is very doable.
- Savings need an account first: Banks keep savings for customers, so we open the first account.
- Fast opening: An operating account in days, with no branch visit.
- No island resident needed: Owners and directors can live anywhere.
- No minimum balance: Your cash keeps working instead of sitting idle to qualify.
- Lower FX costs: Currency conversion from 0.25% over the interbank rate.
- KYC pack prepared: We tell you what to send and build the file.
- No back-and-forth emails: One point of contact who gets it done.
Sector Limits
Butterfield's saver does not accept financial institutions or private investment companies, and Investec's fixed-term deposits are aimed at financial intermediaries. Funds, trusts and regulated firms usually go through a bank's corporate or intermediary team, as our guide to banking and custodian services for Guernsey funds explains. Crypto, gaming, adult content and money services businesses are declined by most local banks, whatever the quality of the file.
Strict Checks on the Money
Savings accounts hold larger sums for longer, so the bank checks the money closely. It verifies each director, owner and signatory, maps the ownership up to every ultimate beneficial owner and asks for proof of the source of funds, and for larger balances the source of wealth. A company owned from abroad usually gets enhanced due diligence, and a written explanation without documents rarely passes.
A Refusal Follows You
Some application forms ask whether the company has been refused elsewhere, and a decline makes the next compliance team more cautious. Sending the same file from bank to bank can cost months and leaves the company without an account.
What to Do After a Refusal
Work out which reason applied: no existing relationship, the residency rule, the sector or the evidence on the money. Fix what can be fixed, choose a bank whose customers look like your company, and open an operating account with a partner in the meantime. If a new bank asks about the refusal, answer honestly and explain what has changed.

Guernsey Banks With Business Savings Accounts
Skipton International publishes the highest business savings rates in Guernsey, with 4.25% on fixed bonds, and NatWest International and Butterfield also publish theirs. Lloyds, Barclays, HSBC and Rothschild & Co give rates on request. For business savings accounts, Guernsey banks are selective, and each sets its own entry rules.
Bank | Who it takes | Who it turns away | Rate or minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
Skipton International | Existing business customers, GBP and USD savings | Companies with no relationship at the bank | 3.00% to 4.25% (Sep 2026), from £10,000 |
NatWest International | Local businesses with an island-resident owner or director | Non-resident owners, layered or nominee ownership | Up to 3.65% on 90-day GBP notice (Feb 2026), from 25,000 |
Butterfield | Guernsey and Jersey companies, charities and non-profits that trade locally | Financial institutions and private investment companies | 3.00% AER instant access (Oct 2025), from £25,000 |
Lloyds | Commercial clients saving in GBP, EUR or USD | Companies run from abroad on the business side | Rate on request, fixed from 10,000, notice from £100,000 |
Investec | Financial intermediaries | Small new trading companies | Relationship based fixed-term deposits |
Rothschild & Co | International families and their holding structures | Operating companies with modest balances | Relationship based |
HSBC and Barclays (Guernsey branches) | Local SMEs and not-for-profits | New and international companies | Rate on request |
Read the table from the right. Of the business savings accounts Guernsey banks publish rates for, the best-paying ones sit behind a £10,000 or £25,000 minimum and, in most cases, an existing relationship. NatWest International's Business Reserve pays 1.05% from £1, more than three percentage points below a Skipton fixed bond. The dates matter too: Butterfield's rate is from October 2025, so check the bank's own page first. Our guide to the best banks for Guernsey companies covers the current account side.
Rates That Lag Bank Rate
Bank Rate was 3.75% in September 2026. On a business savings account, Guernsey rates mostly sit below that: 3.00% on instant access at Skipton International and Butterfield, 3.25% to 3.50% on Skipton's notice accounts and 1.05% on NatWest International's Business Reserve. Only the 3.75% tracker and the 4.25% fixed bonds reach Bank Rate.
Large Minimums and Rate Tiers
Skipton International starts at £10,000, NatWest International's notice accounts at 25,000 in each currency, Butterfield's saver at £25,000 and Lloyds' 32-day and 95-day notice accounts at £100,000. Rates step up with the term: NatWest International paid 3.15% at 35 days, 3.23% at 60 days and 3.65% at 90 days in February 2026. Our guide to minimum deposit requirements for business accounts shows how these compare with other centres.
Notice Periods That Lock Cash
For a better rate on a business savings account, Guernsey banks usually ask you to give up access. Notice accounts hold your money for 32 to 200 days after you ask for it, and early withdrawal from a fixed deposit is often not allowed or costs a penalty. A large bill in that time has to be paid from somewhere else.
Slow, Paper-Heavy Onboarding
With business savings accounts, Guernsey banks make a new customer pass the full onboarding review for a current account first. Certified copies, ownership charts and rounds of questions take several weeks, and the answer can still be no.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Guernsey Business Account
There is a better way to start. Before a company can save, it needs an operating account, and our licensed partners open one faster and at a lower cost than a local bank. They onboard companies with owners abroad as routine work, open multi-currency accounts in days, fully remotely, and ask for no minimum balance. International payments and currency conversion cost far less than at a Guernsey bank. For owners who live elsewhere, it is the quickest way to open a Guernsey business account.
We check that your company fits the partner, build a clean KYC file with you and send it to the partner that accepts your profile. The partner runs its own checks, usually within 2 to 4 days of a complete file, and you then manage GBP, EUR, USD and other currencies online, with cards and payment tools for your team. No island resident, branch visit or trading history is needed.
Be clear on what this account is. Our partners are electronic money and payment firms, not deposit-taking banks. They hold client money in safeguarded accounts, kept apart from their own funds. This money is not a bank deposit: it is not covered by the Guernsey deposit scheme, and you should not expect a savings rate on it. Most companies run payments through the partner account from day one and move reserves into a bank savings product once the company is established and eligible. Read what an EMI account is and how a business bank account differs from an EMI account.
When to Open a Business Savings Account in Guernsey
Open a business savings account in Guernsey once the company has a working account, a trading record the bank can review and more cash than it needs for the next few months. The business savings accounts Guernsey banks offer then become a realistic next step, and the KYC pack we built for the partner account covers most of what the bank asks for. If you also want to open a business bank account in Guernsey with a local bank, our guide on how to open a Guernsey business bank account covers each stage.

Instant Access, Notice and Fixed-Term Business Savings Accounts in Guernsey
There are three main types of business savings accounts in Guernsey, plus a base rate tracker. For business savings accounts, Guernsey banks set the rate by how long they can keep your money, so fixed terms pay the most and instant access the least. The right choice depends on when the company may need the cash.
Type | Access to cash | Typical 2026 rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
Instant access | Any time | 1.05% to 3.00% | Buffers and short-term cash |
Notice account | After 32 to 200 days | 3.15% to 3.65% | Reserves you can plan around |
Base rate tracker | After 32 days | 3.75% (Skipton International) | Cash you expect to hold while rates move |
Fixed bond or deposit | At the end of the term | Up to 4.25% | Cash you will not need for a set period |
The spread between instant access and a fixed bond is 1.25 percentage points at Skipton International, or £6,250 a year on £500,000. That is why companies keep a few months of costs in the operating account, a buffer in instant access and the rest in notice or fixed products, as our guide to business savings and treasury accounts explains.
Instant Access Accounts
Among business savings accounts, Guernsey instant access savers are the most flexible. Skipton International's Easy Saver and Butterfield's Local Business Saver both paid 3.00% in their latest published rates, and NatWest International's Business Reserve paid 1.05% from £1. They suit a buffer for the next tax bill or payroll.
Notice Accounts
A notice account pays more for a waiting period: 35, 60 or 90 days at NatWest International, 40, 120 or 200 days at Skipton International, and 32 or 95 days at Lloyds. The rate is variable, so it can change while the money is in the account.
Fixed-Term Deposits and Bonds
A fixed deposit locks both the rate and the money for a set period. Lloyds offers fixed deposits of one to twelve months from 10,000 in GBP, EUR or USD, and Skipton International's fixed bonds run to November 2027 or November 2028 at 4.25%. Only fix cash the company will not need during the term.
Deposit Protection for Company Savings in Guernsey
Company savings in Guernsey have no deposit scheme cover. The Guernsey Banking Deposit Compensation Scheme protects up to £50,000 per depositor per bank, but it excludes companies, partnerships, limited partnerships, LLPs and trustees. With any business savings account, Guernsey companies rely on the strength of the bank itself.
Who the Guernsey Deposit Scheme Covers
The scheme has been in force since 26 November 2008. It pays up to £50,000 to each qualifying depositor at each Guernsey bank, with a total cap of £100 million over any five-year period. It is designed mainly for individuals.
Who the Scheme Excludes
Companies, partnerships, limited partnerships, LLPs and trustees are outside the scheme, so a company balance is not covered, however small. The position of charities is not clear from published sources, so a charity should ask its bank. Most comparisons of business savings accounts, Guernsey ones included, leave this out, yet for a company holding £500,000 it matters more than any gap in rates. Trust structures should also read about bank accounts for Guernsey trusts.
How to Manage the Risk
Check the parent group's credit ratings before you deposit, spread large balances across two or more banks and avoid locking all the reserves into long notice periods at one bank. Review the split at least once a year.
Documents Needed for a Business Savings Account in Guernsey
For a business savings account, Guernsey banks want the same core file as for a current account: the company's papers, identity documents for every person involved and clear proof of where the money came from. Our partners ask for much the same file, so it only needs to be built once.
For the Company
The bank asks for the certificate of incorporation, the memorandum and articles and a recent Certificate of Good Standing from the Guernsey Registrar of Companies. It also wants the registers of directors and members, an ownership chart that reaches every beneficial owner and a board resolution naming the signatories.
For Each Director, Owner and Signatory
Each person provides a passport, a proof of address from the last three months and a tax residence self-certification for CRS and FATCA. Our guide to Guernsey bank account requirements lists the documents bank by bank.
Source of Funds for the Money You Plan to Save
Show where the cash came from with company statements, sale contracts, invoices or dividend records, plus recent accounts or a forecast. Guernsey's rules on KYB compliance explain why these checks are strict.
Certification and Translations
Copies are usually certified by a lawyer, notary or accountant, and documents in another language need a certified English translation. Allow time for this step, because it often delays a file.

Documents to Open a Business Savings Account in Guernsey
Banks and our partners ask for the same core file, and we build it with you before anything is sent.
- Avoid a rejection: We check your company fits before you apply.
- Ownership mapped: Every layer shown, up to each beneficial owner.
- Source of funds covered: Proof of where the money you plan to save came from.
- Certified copies sorted: Signed off by a lawyer, notary or accountant in the right form.
- One file, two uses: The same pack serves the partner account and later the bank.
- Faster than going direct: One complete file, fewer rounds of questions.
Business Savings Account Costs in Guernsey
To hold a business savings account, Guernsey banks usually expect a current account first, with its monthly fee, payment charges and currency margins, plus a minimum deposit on the savings product and a notice period or break cost on the better rates. Most of the money is lost on the operating side.
Charge | Typical range at a local bank | With our partners |
|---|---|---|
Account opening | £0 to £1,000, higher on international files | Free or a low one-off fee |
Monthly fee on the current account | £8.50 to £50 a month | €30 to €100 a month on a published plan |
Minimum balance or relationship | £10,000 to £250,000 held with the bank | None |
Minimum deposit on a savings product | £10,000 to £100,000 per product and currency | No minimum on the operating account |
Notice period to withdraw | 32 to 200 days on notice accounts | None, balances are available for payments |
Early withdrawal or break cost | Often not allowed on fixed deposits, or a penalty | No lock-in |
Interest on balances | 1.05% to 4.25%, depending on the product | Safeguarded client money, not a deposit |
Local payments out | Free to £0.95 each | €0.20 to €4 per payment |
International payments in | £6 to £15 per payment | €5 or less per payment |
International payments out | £25 to £40 per SWIFT payment | €5 to €25 per payment |
Transfers between your own accounts | Often charged as a normal payment | Free |
FX margin | 1.0% to 3.0% over the interbank rate | 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate |
Periodic compliance review | £250 to £1,000 on complex files | Included |
The monthly fee is the smallest line on the bill. A company that converts £500,000 a year at a 1.0% to 3.0% bank margin hands over £5,000 to £15,000, against £1,250 to £5,000 at 0.25% to 1.0%. Ten international payments a month at £25 to £40 each add £3,000 to £4,800 a year. Together, those two lines can cost more than a year's interest on £100,000 of savings.
Idle cash is the other cost. £100,000 left in a current account that pays nothing gives up about £3,000 to £4,250 a year against a savings product at 3.00% to 4.25%. That is why the business savings accounts Guernsey banks offer are worth the effort once the company is eligible.
To be fair to the banks, an island-only company with a few local sterling payments a month may pay less on the monthly fee, and only a bank pays a savings rate on deposits. For any company paying or paid in other currencies, the partner route costs far less.
The local bank column is a planning range built from published Guernsey tariffs, such as Lloyds at £8.50 a month and Butterfield at £25 to £37 per SWIFT payment, and the partner column from our partners' published plans. Final prices are confirmed in writing before you open.

How Long a Business Savings Account in Guernsey Takes
For a business savings account, Guernsey banks can open the product within days for an existing customer. A new customer must first be accepted, and several weeks is common before any deposit is placed. Our partners usually open the operating account within 2 to 4 days of a complete file.
Stage | Local bank | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Preparing the file | 1 to 2 weeks | 1 to 3 days, with our help |
Review and follow-up questions | 2 to 6 weeks, often more | Within the onboarding window |
Operating account open and ready to use | Several weeks in total | Usually 2 to 4 days |
Adding the savings product | Within days once you bank there | Reserves move to a bank once eligible |
The savings product itself is quick. The wait is the onboarding review before it, and that is the stage our partners shorten.
What Slows It Down
The usual delays are missing or uncertified documents, ownership that runs through several countries and thin evidence on the money. Every round of follow-up questions adds days.
How to Speed It Up
Send a complete file the first time, map every layer of ownership and answer questions the same day. Open the operating account with a partner first, so the company trades while the bank decides. The fastest route to business savings accounts Guernsey banks will approve is an active company with a clean file.

Tax on Business Savings Interest in Guernsey
On a business savings account, Guernsey companies usually pay 0% tax on the interest, and banks do not withhold tax on it. The tax that matters usually sits where the company is managed or where its owners live.
The 0% Company Rate
Guernsey taxes most company profits, including interest, at 0%. Banking business is taxed at 10%, but that rate applies to the banks, not to companies that hold deposits with them. There is also no capital gains tax, one of the benefits of setting up a company in Guernsey.
Interest Paid Gross
Guernsey has no withholding tax on interest, and banks such as Butterfield pay it gross. Keep a yearly record of the interest, so your accounts match what the bank reports.
Tax Where the Company Is Managed
If the company is managed and controlled from another country, that country may tax its profits, including interest. Guernsey banks also report accounts under CRS and FATCA, and shareholders may pay tax at home on dividends. Take advice before you plan around the 0% rate.
How Bank of England Rates Affect Guernsey Savings
Guernsey uses sterling, so GBP savings rates on the island follow the Bank of England. Bank Rate stood at 3.75% going into the Monetary Policy Committee's decision of 17 September 2026. Every sterling business savings account Guernsey banks offer responds to it, some at once and some only when the term ends.
Trackers and Fixed Rates
A tracker, such as Skipton International's 32-day account at 3.75%, moves with Bank Rate. A fixed bond keeps its rate for the full term, even if Bank Rate falls. Companies that expect cuts often fix part of their reserves. Instant access and notice rates move when the bank decides, which is why published rates carry dates.
Euro and Dollar Savings
Euro and dollar rates follow the European Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve instead. That is why NatWest International's 90-day notice rate was 3.50% in US dollars in December 2025 but 2.28% in euros in June 2026. Our guide to multi-currency business accounts in Guernsey covers the operating side.
Why the Company Comes Before the Account
No bank or partner can open an account for a company that does not exist yet. If you are still at that stage, see how to incorporate a company in Guernsey, or read about Guernsey offshore company formation if the owners live abroad. We form Guernsey companies through licensed resident agents for €1,899, in about a week, and use the same KYC file for the operating account, so nothing is prepared twice.

Common Mistakes With Business Savings Accounts in Guernsey
Most problems with a business savings account, Guernsey or elsewhere, can be avoided.
Assuming the Deposit Scheme Covers the Company
The Guernsey scheme excludes companies, so a company balance has no scheme cover at any size. Check the bank's group strength and spread large balances.
Applying for Savings Before the Company Banks Anywhere
Most savings products need an existing relationship, so a deposit application from a company with no account at the bank usually goes nowhere. Open the operating account first and apply with a trading record behind you.
Leaving Reserves in the Current Account
On £250,000, a fixed bond at 4.25% earns about £10,600 a year and an instant access saver at 3.00% about £7,500. A current account earns little or nothing, so move surplus cash out on a set schedule.

Bottom Line
Business savings accounts, Guernsey style, pay up to 4.25% in 2026, with no tax withheld on the interest and a choice of GBP, USD and EUR. Access is the hard part: most banks want an existing customer, minimums run from £10,000 to £100,000, some want an island resident, and refusals are common for owners abroad.
Company deposits also sit outside the Guernsey deposit scheme, so the bank's strength matters more than the headline rate. Open a Guernsey business account with our partners in days, run the business on it at a lower cost, and move reserves into a bank savings product once the company is established and eligible. We form the company, build the file and open the account with you.
