A Dubai business account gives your company AED and foreign currency balances at a Central Bank-licensed bank, a local IBAN that UAE customers and suppliers recognise, no exchange controls and full repatriation of profits. Owners abroad can hold 100% of a Dubai company, so living outside the UAE does not stop you from owning one.
Opening a business bank account in Dubai for non-residents is the hard part. Most banks want at least one signatory who lives in the UAE, an in-person meeting and several weeks of review, and many packages lock up AED 25,000 to AED 50,000. Refusals are common, banks rarely explain them, and a refusal stays on your record.
Setting it up with us is simple. Our regulated payment partners open multi-currency accounts for Dubai companies in days, online, with no resident signatory and no minimum balance. We form the company, prepare the KYC file and handle the application, so you deal with one team and do not need to fly in for a branch meeting.
Our top-rated, licensed banking providers open accounts for Dubai companies owned from abroad within days, with identity checks done online and no UAE-resident signatory needed.

Why Opening a Business Bank Account in Dubai for Non-Residents Is Hard
Can a non-resident open a bank account in the UAE for a company? Yes, but it is hard, because Dubai banks build their process around companies that are licensed, managed and funded in the UAE. A founder abroad can own the company outright, but the bank wants someone local who signs, a meeting it can hold in person and a clear reason why the money belongs in Dubai. Each missing piece moves the file out of the low-risk group.
Banks Want a UAE-Resident Signatory
The rule that stops most founders is about who signs, not who owns. Mashreq's NEO BIZ Key Facts Statement, version September 2026, says at least one partner or power of attorney on the account must be a UAE resident, and it accepts only companies owned 100% by individuals, with no layered structures. Emirates NBD asks for at least one UAE-resident signatory, and ADCB's SmartStart account is limited to UAE nationals and residents with a valid visa.
So a company whose owners and directors all live abroad fails the first check at most banks before anyone reads the business plan. For a non-resident bank account, UAE banks start from this rule, and the usual fix is a residence visa for one owner or director, which we cover below.
Most Banks Want to Meet You in Person
Dubai branch banks still verify identity in person. Emirates Islamic says in its own guide that most UAE banks, including itself, require applicants to be present in the UAE for identity verification. DMCC, one of Dubai's largest free zones, tells its members that UAE banks typically require at least one in-person visit before a business account can be finalised. This tightened rather than relaxed after the UAE left the FATF grey list in February 2024.
The fast app-based accounts do not solve it either. Mashreq NEO BIZ needs the resident partner described above, and Wio Business is built for companies with a UAE trade licence and asks for documents from the licence to a proof of address. So if you hope to open a UAE bank account online as a non-resident, a Dubai branch bank is the wrong place to start.
Open a Business Bank Account in Dubai
A Dubai business account is very doable from abroad with the right partner and a complete file. This is the part we handle.
- No resident signatory needed: Our partners open accounts for owners living anywhere.
- No branch visit: Identity checks run online, so you never fly in for the account.
- Fast opening: A complete file is usually approved within 2 to 4 days.
- No minimum balance: Your capital stays in the business, not locked in a tier.
- Multi-currency from day one: Dollars, euros, pounds and more with real IBANs.
- Company and account together: We form the Dubai company and build the bank file with it.
- One team, no email chains: One contact runs the application from start to finish.
Personal UAE Non-Resident Bank Accounts Are a Different Product
Many founders who need a company account end up reading about a personal non-resident bank account. UAE banks do offer those to people who live abroad, so can a non-resident open a bank account in the UAE for personal use? Yes. The Emirates NBD key facts statement, version 01/2026, opens savings accounts to residents and non-residents, while its current accounts are for UAE residents only. First Abu Dhabi Bank says its Personal Call Account is available to UAE residents and non-residents, and HSBC UAE takes online applications for its international account from people with a valid reason to bank abroad, with approval in about 14 days.
None of these is a company account. A personal UAE non-resident bank account cannot receive your company's sales or pay its suppliers without mixing company and personal money. Founders often ask whether a non-resident UAE bank account in their own name can run the company, and the answer is no. Many products labelled non-resident are also for UAE residents banking in their home country, such as Mashreq's account for Pakistani expats in the UAE, which needs an Emirates ID. If you are searching for a non-resident bank account, UAE business rules mean the company needs its own account.
The Bank Needs an Economic Link to the UAE
When you apply for a non-resident bank account, UAE banks first ask why the money needs to be here, and it is the most common reason for a decline. A UAE customer, a UAE supplier, property in the country, a GCC trade route or a director who lives here all answer that question. A company that wants a Dubai account only for its tax rate does not. Write the link down with evidence before you apply, because the reviewer will ask.
Strict Checks on Owners and Money
The UAE anti-money laundering law was rebuilt by Federal Decree-Law No. 10 of 2025, in force from 14 October 2025. On a non-resident bank account, UAE reviewers want proof, and a note saying the money came from savings is not enough. Signed contracts, recent invoices, statements showing where the opening capital came from and a short note on expected volumes are what move a file into the low-risk group. Every layer of ownership must lead to real people, so a founder who plans to set up a holding company in Dubai should keep the chain short, which is why our guide to UBO verification for business bank accounts is worth reading before you apply.
High-Risk Sectors Are Declined at the Door
Most Dubai banks decline some activities whatever the balance: crypto and virtual assets, gaming, money services, forex, precious metals and adult content. If the licence activity touches one of them, the file often stops before a person reads it. A founder planning to get a crypto licence in Dubai needs a banking plan from the first day. Offshore companies face their own limits, set out in our guide to opening an offshore bank account in Dubai.
A Refusal Follows You
Dubai banks rarely explain a decline, and the next bank will ask whether you have applied elsewhere. Sending the same file to three banks at once looks like shopping for the weakest compliance team. After a refusal, find the rule you missed, open a partner account so the company can trade, and build 6 to 12 months of clean transactions before you go back to a branch.

Dubai Banks for Business Accounts
The main banks for company accounts in Dubai are Emirates NBD, Mashreq, Emirates Islamic, Dubai Islamic Bank, Commercial Bank of Dubai and RAKBANK, with First Abu Dhabi Bank as the one mainstream bank that publishes non-resident acceptance. Their packages look affordable, but for a founder abroad they come with a resident signatory rule, a branch visit, idle minimum balances and high charges on every foreign payment.
Bank | Who it takes | Who it turns away | Monthly fee or minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
Emirates NBD | Licensed companies with a UAE-resident signatory | Files where no signatory lives in the UAE | Connect: no minimum, AED 261.45 a month after 30 days; Proprietor and Prime: AED 50,000 |
Mashreq NEO BIZ | Companies owned 100% by individuals, with a UAE-resident partner or power of attorney | Layered ownership and files with no UAE resident | Pro: AED 99 plus VAT a month; Prime: AED 50,000 |
Emirates Islamic | Licensed companies; signatories show passports, residence visas and Emirates IDs | Signatories without a UAE visa | Tiers from AED 3,000 to AED 3,500,000, fall-below fees from AED 52.50 to AED 2,100 |
Dubai Islamic Bank | Licensed companies, including DED e-Trader licence holders | Files outside its risk policy | Balance tiers from AED 50,000 to AED 3,500,000 |
Commercial Bank of Dubai | Companies with larger balances | Start-ups, since its Starter package closed in 2023 | Essential: AED 100,000 |
RAKBANK | Licensed SMEs and new companies on RAKstarter | Offshore companies on RAKstarter | RAKstarter: AED 103.95 a month; Business Current: AED 25,000 |
First Abu Dhabi Bank | Residents and non-residents on its Business Call Account | Non-residents who want a debit card | AED 10,000, with AED 250 a month below it |
The pattern is clear. On a non-resident bank account, UAE banks in the table either ask for a resident on the file or leave the question to a branch review, and only FAB puts non-resident acceptance in writing. The packages with no minimum charge a monthly fee instead, and the packages with no fee lock up AED 10,000 to AED 3,500,000 of your capital.
High Fees on Every Foreign Payment
On Emirates NBD's business schedule of charges, version 06/2025, a foreign currency transfer sent online costs AED 36.75 on Connect and AED 52.50 on Prime and Preferred, or AED 78.80 from a branch, with correspondent bank fees on top. A founder abroad pays suppliers and receives income across borders, so this charge lands on almost every payment.
Wide Currency Margins
Dubai banks build their foreign exchange margin into the rate rather than showing it as a fee. A margin of 1% to 3% over the interbank rate is common at high street banks, and it is paid on every conversion. For a company that earns in euros or pounds and holds AED, this is usually the largest cost on the account.
Large Minimum Balances That Earn Nothing
Emirates NBD asks for AED 50,000 on Proprietor and Prime, RAKBANK AED 25,000 on Business Current and Commercial Bank of Dubai AED 100,000 on Essential. Drop below and a monthly fee applies, AED 262.50 on Emirates NBD Proprietor and AED 250 at FAB. That capital earns nothing and cannot fund stock, staff or growth.
Slow, Paper-Heavy Onboarding
Branch onboarding runs on attested paper, a signatory met in person and rounds of follow-up questions. For a founder abroad each round costs days, and each trip to Dubai costs more. Central Bank Circular C 2/2026 requires banks to open an SME account within three business days, but only for a low-risk applicant with a complete file, and a file with no resident signatory rarely qualifies.

A Faster and Cheaper Way to Open a Dubai Business Account
There is a better route than a branch queue for a non-resident bank account. UAE companies owned from abroad can open a Dubai business account with a regulated payment partner that works with them every day. Our partners open multi-currency accounts in days, fully online, with no minimum balance, no resident signatory and low or no opening fees, and they charge far less for international payments and currency exchange.
Feature | Dubai banks | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Time to open | 3 business days for a low-risk, complete file; 3 to 6 weeks from a standing start is common | Usually 2 to 4 days from a complete file |
Resident signatory | Required at most banks | Not required |
Branch visit | Usually at least one | None, identity checked online |
Who they accept | Licensed companies that fit the bank's risk policy | Dubai mainland, free zone and offshore companies, owners anywhere |
Minimum balance | AED 10,000 to AED 100,000 on common packages | None |
Monthly cost | AED 99 to AED 261.45 on packages with no minimum | About €30 to €100 a month on a published plan |
International payments | AED 36.75 to AED 78.80 per transfer at Emirates NBD, plus correspondent fees | About €5 to €25 to send, €5 or less to receive |
Foreign exchange | A margin built into the rate, often 1% to 3% | About 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate |
Our guide to opening a business bank account in the UAE covers the national picture. A Dubai bank gives you an AE IBAN and can be cheaper on the monthly fee for a company that only trades in AED with a resident on the account. For a founder abroad, almost everything else favours the partner route: it opens in days, nobody visits a branch, no capital is locked up and cross-border payments cost less. Our guide to a business bank account vs an EMI account explains the difference.
How to Open a Bank Account in the UAE as a Non-Resident
This is how to open a bank account in the UAE as a non-resident with our partners. We check that the company, its owners and its activity fit the partner's rules, usually within a day. We build the KYC file with you from the licence, the company documents and each person's passport and proof of address. The partner verifies identity online, usually approves a complete file within 2 to 4 days, and you fund the account from the source you declared. It is the practical way to open a UAE bank account online as a non-resident, because nothing in the process needs an Emirates ID.
Multi-Currency Accounts for Owners Abroad
Our partners hold dollars, euros, pounds and other currencies in one account, each with its own account details, so customers in Europe or the US can pay your Dubai company like a local supplier. For a founder who sells outside the UAE, that is more useful than an AED account with a 1% to 3% margin on every conversion. Read more about a multi-currency business bank account in the UAE.
How Client Money Is Protected
Our partners are payment institutions, not banks, so they do not lend out your money. They safeguard it, keeping customer funds apart from their own in designated bank accounts or covering them with insurance, under their regulator's rules. The account carries IBANs from the partner's home country rather than an AE IBAN, so a company with many AED-paying customers can add a Dubai bank later, and we prepare that file too. Read what an EMI account is to see how it works.

Documents Needed for a Dubai Business Bank Account as a Non-Resident
Banks and our partners ask for three groups of papers: the company's documents, identity and address evidence for each person, and proof of what the business does and where its money comes from. The lists are close at every Dubai bank. When opening a business bank account in Dubai for non-residents, the third group and the attestation of foreign papers are where files fall short.
For the Company
The company pack is the valid trade licence, the memorandum and articles of association with every amendment, and a board resolution that opens the account and names the signatories. Add the tenancy contract or Ejari as proof of the company address and the beneficial owner details traced to real people. A company on a flexi desk should read how to open a virtual office in Dubai, because the bank checks the address.
For Each Owner, Director and Signatory
Each person goes through the bank's KYC for business account opening and gives a passport copy, proof of home address dated within three months and a tax residence self-certification under FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard. Emirates Islamic asks non-resident individuals for proof of employment or self-employment and an address proof such as a utility bill, a recent bank statement or a reference letter from their home bank covering at least 12 months. At a Dubai bank, the resident signatory also needs a residence visa and an Emirates ID.
Source of Funds Evidence
Show where the opening capital came from with statements, sale agreements or dividend records. Add signed contracts with named customers or suppliers, recent invoices and a short note on expected monthly volume and the countries money will move between. For a founder abroad, this evidence is what proves the economic link. Our guide to source of funds and source of wealth for business accounts explains what reviewers accept.
Attestation of Foreign Documents
The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention. Company documents issued abroad, such as a parent company's certificate of incorporation, need notarisation, legalisation by the UAE embassy in the issuing country and attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That chain takes 2 to 4 weeks on its own, so start it while the company is being formed.

Get Your Dubai Bank Account Documents Ready
Most delays for founders abroad start with one missing or mismatched paper, so we check the whole file before anything is sent.
- KYC pack prepared: We list what each person sends and check every page.
- Attestation planned early: Foreign papers start the embassy and MOFA chain in week one.
- Funds evidenced properly: Contracts, invoices and statements in the form reviewers accept.
- Ownership chart built: Every layer traced to the people who own and control it.
- Faster than going direct: One complete file, so fewer rounds of questions.
- Banks slow to onboard: Our partners open remotely while any local file progresses.
Dubai Business Bank Account Costs for Non-Residents
A Dubai business account costs more than its monthly fee, and a founder abroad pays the most expensive lines: foreign payments and currency conversion. Dubai banks charge AED 99 to AED 261.45 a month on packages with no minimum balance, or hold AED 25,000 to AED 100,000 of your money on balance tiers. Our partners charge a published monthly fee with no minimum and far lower cross-border costs.
Charge | Typical range at a Dubai bank | With our partners |
|---|---|---|
Account opening | Free at Emirates NBD and FAB; AED 262.50 for RAKBANK's express route | Free or a low one-off fee |
Monthly fee | AED 99 to AED 261.45 on packages with no minimum | €30 to €100 a month on a published plan |
Minimum balance | AED 10,000 to AED 100,000 on common tiers, up to AED 3,500,000 | None |
Fall-below fee | AED 52.50 to AED 2,100 a month | None |
Resident signatory | Needed at most banks, which usually means a visa | Not needed |
Additional currency accounts | A separate account for each currency | Included in one multi-currency account |
Local payments in | Free at Emirates NBD | Free on most plans |
Local payments out | Free online; AED 52.50 from a branch at Emirates NBD | €0.20 to €4 per payment |
International payments in | Free to AED 50 per payment | €5 or less per payment |
International payments out | AED 36.75 to AED 150 per payment, plus correspondent fees | €5 to €25 per payment |
FX margin | Built into the bank's rate, often 1% to 3% over interbank | 0.25% to 1.0% over the interbank rate |
Audit and reference letters | AED 52.50 to AED 210 per letter | Statements and confirmations online |
Trips to Dubai for the account | At least one branch visit for most banks | None |
Closing the account | Free after 6 months under C 2/2026 | Usually none |
The local bank column comes from published tariffs, mainly Emirates NBD's business schedule of charges version 06/2025, RAKBANK's price guide effective 18 April 2026, the Mashreq NEO BIZ key facts of September 2026 and the Emirates Islamic business schedule. The FX line is a market range, because banks build their margin into the rate. Treat both columns as planning ranges: the final price on either route is confirmed in writing before the account opens.
The monthly fee is the smallest number on the bill of a non-resident bank account. UAE banks earn most from currency and payments. A company that converts the equivalent of AED 2,000,000 a year at a 1% to 3% bank margin pays AED 20,000 to AED 60,000 for currency exchange alone, against AED 5,000 to AED 20,000 at 0.25% to 1.0%. Ten foreign payments a month at Emirates NBD's AED 52.50 online fee add AED 6,300 a year before correspondent charges. For a founder abroad, whose money almost always crosses a border, these are the lines that matter.
To be fair to the banks, Mashreq NEO BIZ Pro at AED 99 a month is cheaper than our partners' plans on the monthly fee alone, and Emirates NBD sends AED transfers inside the UAE for free online. A company with a resident partner that only trades in AED can bank cheaply in Dubai. Our partners win once the owner lives abroad or the money crosses a border. Our guide to business bank account fees gives the wider picture.

How Long a Dubai Business Bank Account Takes for Non-Residents
Opening a business bank account in Dubai for non-residents takes longer than the rules suggest. For a low-risk applicant with a complete file, Circular C 2/2026 gives Dubai banks three business days to open the account. A founder abroad rarely starts there: the signatory visa, the Emirates ID, the branch visit and attested foreign papers come first, so 3 to 6 weeks at a Dubai bank is a realistic plan. Our partners usually open within 2 to 4 days of a complete file.
Stage | Dubai bank | Our partners |
|---|---|---|
Preparing the file | 1 to 2 weeks, plus 2 to 4 weeks to attest foreign documents | 1 to 3 days, with our help |
Signatory and identity checks | A resident signatory with a visa and Emirates ID, usually met in person | Online identity check, owners anywhere |
Review and follow-up questions | 3 business days for a low-risk, complete file; longer with each round | Within the onboarding window |
Account open and ready | 3 to 6 weeks from a standing start is common | Usually 2 to 4 days |
What Slows It Down
Time is lost in the same places on every non-resident bank account. UAE banks lose days to a signatory visa that is not ready, attestation that started late, a trip to Dubai that has to be rebooked, an ownership chain they cannot follow and a source of funds note without evidence. Each round of questions adds days, and a file that is not low risk falls outside the three day rule. Read more on how long a business bank account takes to open.
How to Speed It Up
Plan the bank file alongside the company. Start attestation in week one, get certified documents ready for every owner, send one complete file and answer questions the same day. If you need to open a bank account in the UAE as a non-resident quickly, open a partner account first so trading never waits for a visa or a flight. Our guide on how to open a business bank account remotely shows which checks run from a distance.

What Happens After the Account Is Open
Once the account is open, banks and payment partners keep reviewing you, report the account under tax rules and expect to hear about changes first. Send the renewed trade licence as soon as it is issued, because some Dubai banks charge AED 250 to AED 420 a month when a licence lapses. Tell the bank before you add an owner, change the licence activity or start paying new countries. The UAE has exchanged account information under the Common Reporting Standard since 2017, so an account whose controlling persons live abroad is reported to their home tax authority each year.
Corporate tax still applies. Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 charges 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above it, and the company registers and files whether or not it owes tax. Where the owner lives abroad, check the company's own tax residence too: our guide to UAE corporate tax for companies covers the rules.
Why the Company Comes Before the Account
No bank or partner can open an account for a company that does not exist yet. The trade licence, the memorandum and articles and the Ejari are the core of the bank file, so business setup in Dubai for foreigners is where the bank file really begins. We form Dubai companies from €1,899, usually in about a week, and build the KYC file for the account at the same time.
Business Setup for Foreigners in Dubai
Business setup for foreigners in Dubai is open on the same terms as for residents. Federal Decree-Law No. 26 of 2020 allows 100% foreign ownership of onshore companies, and Dubai opened more than 1,000 activities to it. Companies in a UAE free zone have always allowed full foreign ownership. Most of the licence steps, from the trade name to the memorandum, can be completed remotely; DMCC, for example, says registration, signing and licence issuance can be done entirely remotely in 7 to 10 days. The visa and Emirates ID need biometrics in person, and so does most branch banking. Our guide to company formation in Dubai compares the mainland, free zone and offshore routes, and the types of companies in the UAE sets out what each can do.
The Visa Route to a Resident Signatory
If you want a Dubai bank as well, one owner can become the resident signatory through a residence visa. The GDRFA green visa for partners and investors needs a stake of at least AED 1,000,000, lasts up to five years and costs AED 200 plus small fees and AED 500 if you apply inside the country. The UAE golden visa for business owners runs for 10 years from AED 2,000,000 in property or a bank deposit, with a AED 1,100 permit fee. The Emirates ID adds AED 100 per year of residence plus a AED 100 application fee. For many owners, this is the last step of business setup for foreigners in Dubai rather than the first. Read more about the Dubai investor visa.
Trusts, foundations, regulated firms and high-risk activities are quoted separately. Once the licence arrives, you can open a Dubai business account with our partners within days.

Common Mistakes Non-Residents Make With a Dubai Bank Account
Most refusals and delays for founders abroad follow a few patterns that we see again and again.
Applying With No Resident on the File
Many founders form the company, book a flight and only then learn that the bank needs a UAE-resident signatory. Decide early whether an owner will take a residence visa. Until then, open a partner account that does not need one.
Opening a Personal Account for the Company
A UAE non-resident bank account in your own name is easier to open, and some founders try to run the company through it. That mixes company and personal money, breaks the bank's terms and makes the corporate tax return harder. The company needs its own account.
Sending the Same File to Several Banks
Applying to three banks at once looks like shopping for the weakest compliance team, and every refusal is asked about later. If you want to open a business bank account in Dubai, send one complete application to a bank that fits the company, or start with a partner account.
Starting Attestation Too Late
Foreign company documents need embassy legalisation and MOFA attestation, which takes 2 to 4 weeks. Founders who wait for the bank to ask lose a month. Start the chain in the same week you start the company.

Bottom Line
So can a non-resident open a bank account in the UAE for a company? Yes, but Dubai banks set the terms: a UAE-resident signatory at most banks, an in-person visit, a minimum balance of AED 25,000 to AED 100,000 on many packages and 3 to 6 weeks from a standing start. Get a resident on the file and a complete, low-risk application, and Circular C 2/2026 gives you an account within three business days.
If you need a non-resident bank account, UAE banks are not the only route. For most founders abroad, the best start is a partner account: opened in days, online, with no resident signatory, no minimum balance and cheaper cross-border payments. We handle the business setup in Dubai for foreigners, build the file and open the account with you, and a Dubai bank can follow once an owner holds a visa and the company has a trading record.
